Group purchase of Arri Matteboxes

:help:
I'm still on for the Arri deal but I still haven't had any response from Steve, and I'm concerned that they won't be able to deliver in time for my the arrival of my RED 179!!!!

Hey Jay, of course you are right. The Arri MB-20 is the real deal. I'm still very happy to be a part of the deal.

The RED MB looks realy great but we dont know nothing yet. I dont think that it will ship in the next 3-4 month. I need a MB now. So the Arri is the way to go.
If the RED MB will be suuper good I can still sell my ARRi MB anywhere for the same price I bought it.
You wouldn't beliefe how expensive the MB -20 is in Europe.

So we will see. But I'm happy now.

Cheers
Tim

Hey guys,

FYI This deal is pretty much done.. If you have turned in an order you will be taken care of. If not, and you REALLY have to get an ARRI product then you can try for an exception but must turn it in no later than noon Friday. No promises.

It was a cool experience, and I know RED throwing up that render of their mattebox gave us all pause, but fear not.

I am 99% sure that if you have to have your mattebox sooner than 2 months from now (I even think 4 actually) then the RED mattebox is not a choice at this time.

Jay

PS I was not really happy to see RED and Co throw that up there with No explaination whatsoever. It served only to confuse people greatly and caused many of them to risk this opportunity. Happily, not ONE person cancelled their order. Only people that had no intention of ordering in the first place made a deal of it.

Truly well done Jay.

Guess this is my cue to announce the new Arri matte box /follow focus discounts.

I’ve got a new bulk deal from Arri (Australia) that discounts ANY Arri production matte box, follow focus and their accessories.

The deal is as follows:

25% discount off any Arri production matte box and accessories.

20% discount off any production follow focus and accessories.

Bulk deal comprises of any combination of MB20-I /II, MB18, MB16, MB14, FF3, FF4 or FF5 units to total 20 units.

I’ll started another thread (Sticky) with further details here: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6629

Dave,

Is it possible to order a LMB-5 kit through Abel? I know there will be no discount, but I am curious about the current pricing. Thanks.

Yep you can get a LMB-5 through them.

I just finished my deal with them this morning and I couldn't be happier. They said I will have it within the month!

Deal Finally Going away per ARRI

Deal Finally Going away per ARRI

I have been told by ARRI US (This is not connected to David's deal) that they will not take any further orders, regardless of the reason or plead, after This Thursday at 5pm.

This deal, as far as ARRI US is concerned will go bye-bye.

They DO consider the whole thing a success, and they and abel cine are quite happy.

As you know, it's not in ARRI's business model to offer large discounts, but Eric saw a unique window of opportunity here to get a lot of new customers that may have not used ARRI products (For cameras) before. So he jumped when I announced the group buy. It was a hell of a fight by all concerned to get this thing to a good place.. To give you an idea, when we started, they offered two filter trays as the discount. Of course, neither I nor Eric went for that!

Once the ball got rolling and you expressed your interest, it was time to select a vendor.. I spoke with three, one of them was just NUTS! And the other two were excellent. Filmtools bent over backwards to try to get the deal, but in the end, Abel cine won it for a number of reasons, and not all of them were priced-based. They brought to the table a lot of experience, and even additonal products (Such as a great filter package).

Now the dolllar has weaken even further, and ARRI has actually RAISED it's prices since this deal began (But held our prices at the agreed level until the deal's completion), so it's highly unlikely we will see this again for a long time to come.

I won't lie... This has been a butt-kicker of a job, and I'm glad it's finally ending.. I am ALSO glad so many of you got what you wanted. I think we were all smart to go with the most stable company we could find and use the product known the world over as "the best" it only helps our cameras to be taken more seriously by those that have not yet heard of them (Yes, there are people out there who work in this industry who have not heard of RED, and some of them don't even use Internet!!!).

So if anyone is still mulling it over, you have a have a day to do so, then that's it. If you write to Steve now and BEG to get in, you have a chance. But you need a "Yes" to get in now.. Better cc me to be safe

If anyone has put in an order recently, YOU ARE COVERED. If you have not gotten a response, then send it to me, I will confirm it, and you are covered.

The best part of all this was getting to know so many of you, and a special thanks for David Farland, who spent many hours on the phone with me as a friend and consultant.

I also want to thank Eric Johnston at ARRI who made this happen for us, and Steve Cohen at Abel who is still buried under a pile of orders trying to get everyone taken care of before his vacation. He really did a great job.

Have a wonderful holidays everyone!

Jay

This has been extremely frustrating for me. Steve's lack of response blew this deal for me. I just sent him the following after trying for more than a month and a half to get him to respond.

Steve,
I have phoned you twice, emailed you several times and asked for more information about the Red matte box deal. I started this well before the deadline for orders. To date I haven’t seen any of the information you promised. I was ready to order the day I called you. Please respond.

Jim,

As I have said many times, if you intended to make a purchase, and you E-mailed Steve before the deadline. THEN YOU ARE IN.. Just forward me what you sent to Steve and I will send it to ARRI directly.

NO ONE.. And I mean NO ONE will be left behind on this.

Jay

It doesn't sound like him. He's replied, answered, and took my order. Jay has also been checking this thread and mentioned if anyone needed to confirm their orders. I'm sure they will take care of it.

Jay,

Sent you an email with copies of my correspondence with Steve. Thanks for stepping in. It may have been because I wanted a fair amount of additional glass and he just got swamped and didn't get to the quote.

Jim

Steve was in the office last week late into the night working on this deal. He has to travel for the holidays but will be in at the end of this week to dot the "i" and cross the "t" on every order. Swamped isn't the word, but we do apologize for any orders that slipped through. You should have seen what he had spread out on the conference table to track all of this.

Has anyone heard from Steve this month? I provided my CC info before the holidays and expected to hear something by now. I called Steve last week and this week, emailed twice, but no response. The last thing he told me on December 13th was that we were looking at the first week of January for DELIVERY.

Does anyone have concrete news on the status of this order?

75% will ship this week; the remaining 25% next week. Steve knows which is which if you need to know the status of your order. It's all about getting everything in from the vendors.
