  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP PURCHASE - 3ware Sidecar RAID Solution

Quite unfortunate. In the 3ware website states 720 GB, so I just bought 4 720. But I much rather use 1 TB. Well, what can I do. It would be nice if that is specified in the website so it doesn't lean to confusions.

I guess those speeds were good. But since I was getting 420 write, I wanted to get 420 Read. :innocent:

Also another stupid question: My system is set up as RAID0. I can't just take 1 hardrive out, and the stuck another one and rebuilt. Right? That would cause to loos all the data, right?

I wonder if the seagate 1,5T work with the sidecar, but the backup becomes more expensive : with 4 x 1 T in Raid1, you "only" have 2,7 T to backup and it is easy and inexpensive because you can buy a 2 x 1,5 T external HD (about 450 USD).

You are right, in Raid0, you loose evething and you have 4 x more chance of an hardware failure (4 x HD). Could be a good choice if you have a good backup.

I have tried to extract a HD from the sidecar, I get a mail from the controller and I did not loose any data.

I just saw this product featured on Up3Date but thought it would be too slow. I am glad to see you can set up two sidecars into a RAID-0, with each set up as RAID-5. Speed and protection. And the newer prices are low!

Amazon has the Sidecar for $250, but does that include a battery on the card itself?

Also, has nobody tried 1.5TB Hitachis Seagates or WDs yet? I would like to see 1.5's tested and supported by the company. 2TB would be nice too.

You can get different cards if you wanted for the Sidecar. Just wondering if anyone had tried a different card other than the one that comes with the SideCar. Raid 0 is safe if you have the space to use a program like Macrium to backup an image of your Raid setup.

Has anyone had experience with rebuilding their Raid5 after loosing a drive? How long does it take?

Is this product dead? Well, for the good price?

The 3ware site doesn't have an add to cart button anymore... also the only places showing the good prices don't have it in stock anymore.
