  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP PURCHASE - 3ware Sidecar RAID Solution

If it's adapting to laptops, will it soon work on the latest iMacs? I know ports are the problem, but there seem to be solutions cropping up left and right. At this new price, I should just buy one and wait for my new MacPro coming up, what?!

(The latest iMacs? I mean the new quad core upgradable ones that are just around the corner. Hahaha).

I just tried to order, followed all the instructions and got to filling out my address... then there was no way to go forward! The next step was payment, I'm sure, but they may be revising that step, because there were no option buttons! There was nothing to press and no questions to answer. Talk about bizarre! I went back and foreward.

It accepted my address but didn't proceed to the payment window. Now I'm beat. Order denied. Goodnight!

BTW, I noticed the ad in new products for the Sidecar in the August editition of HD VIDEO PRO today. It also features a hands on with Goedecke for the RED ONE Camera, so it's probably old news as it's been out for a month, but for me, it links to tutorials. Check it out!....

So you don't get the "Continue To Step 2" button in the blue bar under address/shipping information?

I'm using Firefox on a Mac and it comes up fine. Just completed an order in fact.

I'm on a PC laptop running windows vista home premium, and it does tend to jump around where it wants to sometimes. I'll try again in a bit.

I sent a message to David Graas about the ordering problems.

Hopefully he will be able to get it resolved.

That was fast! Ordered it Wednesday, it shipped Thursday and was in Sydney Monday morning!

Just filled it with 750GB drives for 3T RAID0.

Whole thing cost about US$1000 including drives, landed. Not bad.

Getting about 195MB/S read and 150MB/S write. Not the fastest but I can play uncompressed 1080 clips without stuttering.

Sidecar and bootcamp

Sidecar and bootcamp

Any news to fix the boot inability of the mac under bootcamp with the sidecar's PCI card ?

Guys, I understand about the bootcamp support. Heard about this during the SigGraph show as well. Just got back into the office so I will start checking into this. Good to hear some of you have ordered the Sidecar and are seeing similar results as our demo.

Jim and everyone, I wanted to bring up one small thing regarding setup of our controllers. Since we offer BBU protection as an option our controller has multiple settings for data protection. By default without a BBU installed our controller is in protection mode which turns off controller and drive cache. If you want optimum performance without having to install a BBU you can switch the setting using our 3DM2 software to performance mode which will turn on the cache for both the controller and drives. Realize however that with the cache turned on without a BBU installed you could have data loss if there was a internal or external power failure to the drives or controller. You can read more about this feature in our Users Guide. Regards,

P.S. For the best of both worlds we recommend you install the optional BBU-MODULE-03 so that your cache can be turned on and protected!

Thanks David. Is it safe to make this config change while data is on the drives, or is best made when reformatting? I'd like to try it but don't want to disturb what I have on there.

Thanks! Great product!

Jim

You need to download the beta driver.

Working well for me, hope this helps.

Jim-
Thanks for that tip. Do you remember if you downloaded the complete codeset or the driver? (or if there's a difference for that matter). Just tried installing the complete codeset without any luck so now im downloading just the driver. I think these are the same things as they are both 209mb and have the same file name.

Jim, you can make the change anytime through our 3DM2 software since it does not impact the array configuration or data already written to the drives. The only issue is that with it in performance mode without a BBU the data in cache is at risk if the power is interrupted. More details on this feature is mentioned below...

P.S. I am working with our engineering group to get the updated Mac driver posted. Will let you all know once its ready.
