  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY - Vaxis Storm Wireless Streaming System

This is an exciting GB. I would love to see more specs on each of the three different models. I scoured the Vaxis website with little luck. Can anybody tell us the different size/weight dimensions of the 3 different models, and the amp draw of each transmitter?

Thanks!
Sean

HI
I am ok for 1 x vaxis storm 500ft if you will hit the better discount and maybe a second receiver
Product should be ship directly from vaxis factory to my office in paris
thanks to let me know ;)

Gotcha down.

One more question regarding the Vaxis storm 1200ft.

if i calculate 1200ft it is 360 meters.
on the vaxis site it states 800m (LOS) transmission distance (which would be 2000+ ft).

so what is the actually distance that will/can be reached.

Range varies greatly - channels being used, your environment, etc....but I think like most wireless transmission companies, they error on the safe side of what most people should experience.

Would you like to be added?

Here are the 1200 and 1000 foot comparisons:

1000 foot on left, 1200 foot on right. 1000 foot is made mostly of plastic whereas the 1200 foot is aluminum.

1000 foot transmitter weight in grams

1200 foot transmitted weight in grams:

1000 foot receiver weight in grams:

1200 foot receiver weight in grams:

A reminder that all these work together. So if you start with the 500 foot and upgrade later to the 1000 or 1200 foot, they will still work together. So if you're using the 1200 foot transmitter along with a 500 foot receiver, your range will be 500 feet for that receiver since you're limited by the shortest range device. However, if you're using (1) 1200 foot transmitter along with (1) 500 foot and (1) 1200 foot receiver, the 1200 foot receiver will get you the 1200 feet LOS, whereas the 500 would only get you the 500 feet LOS for that respective receiver/monitor.

Thank you so much Chris! Great info. I hate to be a pest, but do you have similar specs on the 500, and any amp draw? The 500 is more likely where I would be able to come in...

Thanks again,
Sean

Is the receiver available on its own as part of this group buy or is it only available as an add-on to another purchase?

I'm sure when we hit the top tier, they will allow that, though you may have to wait a bit while they process the other orders first.

I'm surprised by the lack of variation in power consumption between 500W and 1200W transmitters. All three models report the same: less than 6.5 W for Transmit. Does anybody who has one of these units have the ability to measure and post their transmitter's power draw?

The power draw is very very little. A 98WH brick battery should power the receiver for most, if not all day with the 1200 foot version.

Did they ever ping back if it's compatible with the 150m Ghost-Eye 2016?

The response I got back was that they aren not compatible with the ghost eye series.

I bought a Ghost Eye 150m TX to run with my no name receivers (looks exactly like Vaxis 150m). Ghost eye wouldn't talk with it. Sent it back.

Anyone who's on the fence. I have a No Name TX: 3 RX package that is exactly the same as the Vaxis 150m - just unbranded. Same make/manufacturer. I love them. Never let me down and run circles around Bolt 300. I can get two NYC blocks line of sight. I also used them in Madison Square Garden from one end to the other with no drop outs. MSG is RF hell. Also, one NP 970 lasts between 5-6 hrs.

Chris, I'm just looking to get an extra TX for my 150m kit. Anyway to make that happen?

Thanks

I used the Tilta branded one the other day and they look to be pretty much the same as these, with extremely similar build and all the I/O, indicator light, and holes on the same places. I'd wager Tilta and Vaxis are just rebranding the same OEM system. It was the 1000' version with 2 receivers and worked really well.

Since I normally use a Bolt 600, I was surprised by how large the receivers are on these. They're gigantic! The antennas also feel very cheap. In fact, the guy that owned this Tilta wireless had already had a broken antenna after only two shoots. A little super glue fixed that antenna, but I'd suggest getting a couple spares. I'm also not a fan of the 4-pin power. Just give us the standard 2-pin to 2-pin. We were in a house, so I didn't really get a chance to test the range, but it transmitted through walls no problem.

I'm not in love with this system, but for the price it can't be beat. Get the Vaxis 1000 at potentially $2100, or spend almost 3x as much for the Teradek equivalent? For the owner/operator, it's really a no-brainer if you ask me. If I was buying today to add to a personal kit, I'd save a bunch of cash and get the Vaxis.

Yea...it really is a best for the price system that, like you said, competes with Teradek that charges 3x that amount. The 1200 foot version has a much better build quality than the 1000 foot version...same antennas, but I haven't had any issues with the antennas breaking.

Again, for the price, can't be beat.

Thanks Chris, so count me in for (1) TX 150m, if we make the tier. Perhaps if it's not too complicated, maybe someone who wants an extra RX can split a kit with me.
