hi scott

sorry if this is been said but i'm a little confused, how do we know if this is going to happen or not? i'm specifically asking for the tier 3 and above crew, i have not put down a deposit or anything so i'm a little confused how or when we'll know

No worries Suresh, I'm glad you asked.

As of this writing we have nine users who have pledged to buy without reservation and two of them have reported here that they have placed their orders. (EDITED) When we add one more pledge we will reach ten and the group buy can go forward having reached our minimum threshold with the caveat that all ten of those must secure orders with deposits before we are official.

Those who have qualified their interest will watch and wait until their requirements are met, placing their orders at the appropriate time. Right now I have list of nine folks including yourself who are waiting for tier 3. Presumably that group will place their orders when we reach twenty-one pledges (12 more) because our twenty-one plus the nine waiting for tier 3 will raise us to that level.

I will try and confirm numbers with Jacek daily now that we are entering the final week but the discount will only be officially set by Optitek on the final day (10/22) when Jacek reports the final number of orders with deposits. Until that time there is no guarantee of what the discount will be. (EDIT) I can not make any guarantees but Jacek can if he chooses. :-)

The deposit commitment and uncertainty in pricing has a few people understandably in a dilemma. Perhaps if Jacek were willing to post in the thread when we reach target goals, certifying and essentially guaranteeing that we are at tier 1, 2, 3 that would help folks like Suresh feel more comfortable placing their orders.

Time is getting short and deposits will have to be verified first so users would need to get those in without delay for this to be of real use but it seems like a good idea.

What do you say Jacek, are you comfortable with that?
 
I'm fine with any way of communicating the GB progress in a transparent manner. It looks like I have two more inquiries not from the above list.
I've just asked the permission to make their names public (some may have issues with that - i don't know?...)
They both seem to be non provisional inquiries (regardless of the tier we reach)
Keep them coming....

One thing I am curious about when the control happens in Jaceks Mounts vs through RCP, is if the choice of lenses that works changes?

Is there any difference in Sigma and Nikon performance through his mounts vs RCP?

I've been watching these threads for any signs of Nikon lens testing and haven't seen any. Is there some I've missed. I'm especialy interested in any experience with lenses Red has not put on their characterized list (I'm just assuming the few that Red has characterized will be fine.) Is there anyone with experience with either the Sigma Art lenses or the Nikkor f1.8 G lenses? Those are of particular interest.
 
My experience with the Sigma Art Canon-EF 18-35 f1.8 lens is that it works great with the system. Others have tested other Sigma Arts and found them to work very well, as well. I have no experience at all with Nikon lenses, but given the similarities in the software, would imagine they would work equally well.

Gunleik did demo a few of them here. Have you seen those? Perhaps he has experience with some others as well.

Unfortunately, Red hasn't characterized the Nikon versions of the Sigma Art primes or the nikkor f1.8 G-series primes. And Red has been very slow to add Nikon-mount lenses to the list. So I'm looking for some indication of how the Optitron works on lenses not yet on the Red list. I'm not really in a position to dump my Nikon system and switch to Canon, so I want to know better what I can expect before I put down the money for the Optitron.
