  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: Optitron2 - Wireless remote for Canon/Nikon glass

I'm not sure if there is any cross relevance to my experiences with the Birger/Canon mount, but I was one of the very earliest adopters of the Birger/Impero combination (we were certainly in the first five), never upgraded my firmware, and yet I never had any trouble using lenses later added to our kit and were not in the "Birger system," as it were. It is possible that something similar may be at work here.

Ok I have some great news:
Yesterday we started a social media Reduser GB campaign.
We used Twitter, FB, Instagram to let everyone know about our offer here on RU
We reached across camera manufacturers boundaries over to Sony users and ARRI users.
Today a gentleman reached over from a Sony user community and signed up for the GB.
I'm thrilled- not only that we can offer this deal to everyone but mostly because we have a product that bridges across different camera platforms to all film makers.
We will soon add Canon and BMD to the compatibility list.
I can't wait for film makers from all walks of life to start discussing electronic lens potential with OptiTron.

Hi jacek

Could you tell me more about the mount / qr on the optitron?
would I be able to buy the receiver plate to allow me to mount it to other ways apart from the 15mm rod adaptor

I'm specifically thinking gimbal ( ronin m)
and super stripped down Brain -lens - monitor -side handle -battery setup

Am I "#11?"

I'm wondering if I'm the "#11?" I followed the link over from the Sony community website and I've completed my 10% deposit. I also spammed all my buddies on FB to try and get some additional orders to hit this 25% discount tier. I'm quite excited to get this piece of kit, but I sure would love to save some dough too. Y'all order some more! I'm tempted to buy several and sell them to my buddies after they use mine and fall in love with it... LOL!

I believe it's a 16x9 Cine Lock or similar. (Jacek please correct me if I'm wrong)
My plan is to attach a couple of dove-tails on key areas and being able to switch positions for the Optritron depending on how the camera is rigged and what I'm shooting. (shoulder mount, tripod, gimbal, handheld)

My headache is figuring out different cable lengths for various positions and shooting scenarios. (of course I could go wireless but then it's another battery/powersource required and the Optitron will become "bulkier")

If you go wireless, the receiver could either plug into D-tap, or you could have a small adapter to say a 9V battery. The receiver really doesn't use a lot of juice.

The hand-units battery seem to live on "forever", too and is really an integrated part of the controller.

Good news to hear that both are power efficient. I think wireless would be my first choice if the Optitron hand-unit was a bit smaller. For my needs I also have issues worrying about the hand-unit battery even if it has a good battery. (I sometimes use my equipment in -20°C and even though I wish it could last "forever" I can't take that chance in those conditions)

I think the wired version is the way to go for me. I am becoming more and more convinced of the benefits of the Optitron2.
