  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: L'Aigle Exoskeleton

There is 2 versions of arms ? We can't use the arms of the soft case when we plan to buy the exo case later ? I think we could do no ?

Just filmed a ton of back to back dialogue takes with Dragon/Master Primes and exo last night on a baseball feature film and had the DP and directors convinced it looked as good as steadicam. Movi M15 was bending at the knees with the heavy master prime on it, but managed to pull it off.

Is the exo supposed to minimize the up and down / walking effect like a steadicam or or is mainly used to help with the weight?
I have the exo and it has helped a lot with weight of the ronin but we have not been able to minimize the walking effect...maybe we have the tension set wrong but there isn't much information on how to adjust anything....

My experience so far is that with practice its pretty good when walking on a smooth surface but in rough terrain with obstacles the bounce is pretty noticeable. I've only used it with my Dragon and still learning to fine tune so I'm not sure how it is with a light load.

I've found that by not having so much of the weight on the hips, I can control the bounce much better. I go 60/40 shoulder to hips. Also, I adjust the tension so my arms are bearing at least 20 % of the total weight, because my arms can react quicker to changes in steps than having the exo support it entirely. Height adjustment of the rear arms is crucial as well.

Good tip. Practically speaking how are you achieving the 60/40 and 20% ? Are you guessing that it is 20% cause that's how it feels ? Does the camera do a slow drop when you release ?

Which tension are you adjusting...the big knobs on top or the the double rod side arms things that require a hex tool?
I really wish there was more instruction on how to fine tune everything and what function does what...

Pierre any plans on releasing detailed instructions or videos on operating and optimizing the exo?

Guesswork. Not scientific.

Big knob for tension. Clockwise to make for less resistance. Counter for more. Make sure with the double rods on the side that they are the exact same length.

thanks Ned...what do the double rods do? they are currently the same length...should I even bother trying to tweak those?

Also: MAKE SURE THE ARMS ARE IN THE AIR (not on the maroon clips) before doing any adjustments... or boom! You could snap them! (I mean the "twin" bolts on the arms could snap!)

Learned a lot of new things today that made the rig work way better.

The Whale Squeal.
It's not a hamster stuck in the springs. But it sounds close. Adjust the double rods, not until they're the same length but until the pin is perpendicular to the guide slots. Makes a huge difference. A spot of WD 40 and it's butter.

The Big Bolts on top.
Once I've ball parked the tension (I like to support a small bit of the weight), I put the camera in and fine tune until the cross bar is level. If not, it'll have the tendency to tilt.

Vest Adjustment
Today I found a sweet spot that allowed me to go for over an hour without un - suiting. I shortened the shoulder straps a bit then loosened the hip strap until there was more weight on my shoulders but more importantly less response from my hips. This virtually eliminated the left / right sway it gets when too much weight is on the hips. Because hips tend to have more back and forth movement, alternately, as you walk, and shoulders stay pretty much square; this virtual eliminates the side to side sway and "seeing steps". Try it. Do a fast walking shot with the weight on the hips then one more shoulders but with the hip straps loose, you'll see. I'm sure others may differ on this and say it's an ergo nightmare, but for me it was the first time I could wear the rig for over an hour.

Handle Adjustment (Ronin)
Was doing a lot of booming from the floor to head on a Ronin today in inverted mode. I found if you have one handle up and the other down you get incredible tilt control during the boom.

Missing Accessory
Cup holder.

Maybe someone can help me here:

I paid the deposit in December and still didnt get a notification for my unit. Now I visited this thread again and see people getting their units.
Then I contacted Pierre Davezac and they told me they cant handle my case till SEPTEMBER!!!!
I was on #83 and they even put me out of the list. Whats going on? Did I miss smth?

Wait, when you said you paid in PM, you meant the deposit ?
If that's a yes, I won't go further, that means you're out.
You will probably get a deposit refund.

I have sent numerous PM and posts on the thread once or twice a day when the time came.
Look in your pmbox.

If you did pay the balance, then yes there is something wrong.
It's the summer vacation here which means in both scenario, you will have to wait 'til september, as L'aigle is probably closed for a month.

We were writing because I wanted to be in the 2nd batch of units.
You agreed and asked if it's one or two units. After answering no more words.

I would have paid if I got a go or anything...for an example an invoice or smth.

Regards

The second batch "the V2" has been organized in June which is nearly 3 months after the balance was due.

anyway, I'm not working for l'aigle, so I can't give you invoice. They will deal with you in September.
But I'm pretty sure you won't get a unit if you didn't pay the balance.

There are no proper reviews and there are no proper training videos. The industry I worked in, proper manuals and training videos were the first line of defense against product liability lawsuits, so it pays for these things to be available to customers.

Well I'd love to write a review on it but since there is zero documentation it's taking us (and everyone else) a while to figure out the right settings and how to properly setup and use the vest. :-/
