  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: L'Aigle Exoskeleton

Sharing our set-up.....
I ended up using an IDX camera plate and added a 6' D-Tap extension that runs into a Quad D-Tap adaptor that is mounted on the handle of the Ronin. This allows me to power just about any accessory that I own on the rig and actually keeps it pretty simple. It also allows me to break away from the Ronin with one D-Tap plug and the Epic is powered from a D-tap to 90 degree lemo for power. It all works like a dream. I have the camera, SmallHD DP7 Highbright monitor, Paralinx Tomahawk, and Cinegear Wireless FF motor all onboard. We'll take some pics this week.

Looking forward to the pictures!

As I'm like a child waiting for Christmas: any update on the shipping schedule? No Fast-Track, paid in for hard case.
Looking forward to my exo!

Mike, Galen, David: so much truth in so few words! Thanks for the understanding. It has been a roller coaster ride alright!

We have one of our grandson's staying with us at the moment Pierre. He is seven years old and just as impatient. Things need to happen now. It helps ground you a bit. We work it out and go forward. Hopefully as grandparents we are a bit wiser and can direct some of that energy!. We have four retired racing greyhounds and even they like a bit of time away from him!!
Life goes forward and soon all of us will have this wonderful device in our possession to amaze the clients and create wonderment on the set.

David

Brian Koss- it was trial and error on wu to be honest. Once I placed order at laigle it gave me an invoice with bank info on it. I don't want to put that info out on Internet. Did you get an invoice? Contact Pierre. He can help. Sorry.

Pierre, sent you an email last friday, never heard from you. Made the payment, trying to figure out when my Exo and case ship? You made mention of it leaving Monday, wondering if it went yesterday? Jim

Got the exo today. Pretty pumped...but kinda clueless how to put this thing together. The arms attach via a high tension coiled spring and not sure how to get it stretched down to latch onto the piece inside the arm to hold each arm on...any help? Looks like trying to pry a coiled spring onto a trampoline kinda deal. Don't want to damage anything trying to he-man it on if there's a simple solution. Hoping Pierre's how-to video shows up soon.

Congrats on getting it, Sam! You'll love it. Putting it together doesn't require he-manning it. You can put it together fairly easy. I'm still waiting on confirmation that our units will ship shortly (without either case) and I will post a video we've made explaining some of the basics like assembly, tension, adjustments and overall thoughts (pretty much entirely positive).

Pierre we won't require the softcase since we really can't offer it to our clients so you can save it for us. We'll have to come up with a temp solution until we can afford hardcases.

How do you get the arms onto it? The hard case is pretty awesome btw everyone. It's packed in tight and secure and after having a chance to feel the exo and see all the different pieces that go on, a soft case 100% seems like a painful and expensive mistake to make.

Sam and everyone,
We'll shoot the video tomorrow. From A to Z how to unpack, put in function, repack the unit...

Sounds good. I figured out installation of the arms. Felt so good to figure it out on my own, but tension and such is still a mystery. Looking forward to that Pierre! Anyone that gets their unit today that is still clueless the key is to tilt arms up and use the orange tool or an allen wrench to get the hook of the coil spring up just enough to slide in the allen screw back in. Pierre, is it normal to hear a very slight grinding sound near the back of the coiled spring?

Sam, there's a Teflon sheave where the spring needs to sit centered. Otherwise, it touches the inner surface of the exoarms tubes.
But give us just enough time to post this video that will explain it all.

Ok went to western union site. Think its done. Says on hold until they check a few things. Let me know when it comes thru please?

Jim, I spent four hours and three locations with Western Union yesterday... they simple COULD NOT help me make my payment... if you could do it, I sincerely ask that you share how you did it. I'll admit, I had a bunch of "dim bulbs" helping me... I got so fed up with it, I paid my bank to do the transfer this morning. Western Union was no help at all for me! I hope with your help, others can use that service.

HARD CASE ORDERED! Wire transfer done! Excitement level? THROUGH THE ROOF! Can't wait!

Kwan, you're gonna want the hard case. The cost of a repair is too much to risk. We're getting the rig less than cost and 1/3 retail. Sure it's more than we calculated but we all know by know nothing is ever certain on group buys for emerging tech. So many variables come into play. At some point, L'Aigle, realized the under estimate and has to make up for it or the other alternative would be to close the group buy and issue refunds. I see this as a cost overrun that the buyer has to pick up or get a refund. Like when you spec a renovation or construct a new building. It happens. I don't suspect Pierre anticipated overruns way long ago and decided to bait and switch us. The extra 500.00 will be covered by the first gig or two and let you sleep when it's tossed into the back of a truck or the hold of a plane. Wait until you get the estimate for a custom lazer fit foam and a Pelican bought at B&H and the hard case will suddenly make sense.

Ned this brings up an interesting point or two... thank you for that!

What do YOU think the 'average' price for USING the ExHauss will be? I've not figured out if I should just "throw it in" to secure work over competitors, or if I should charge for it... If I do the latter, I have no idea how to price it out!

After much contemplation on my own situation, I too decided to get the case Pierre designed. I figured that if the unit is as bad ass as it was at NAB... he had to have taken the same thought, planning and care designing the protection of the rig! I too wasn't anticipating the increase, however, I do believe that I would rather keep my Exo in pristine condition for as long as I can. I believe the custom case Pierre has designed will facilitate that! Even though there are other "case" options that seem at first glance, more economical, you have limitations in what they can accomplish; the foam alone could cost the difference! Further, we're ready to rock and roll the second it shows up at the door step! Don't have to start an entire process of "now how do I protect it?"

Well done Pierre! I know it took some of us a bit of reflection time to come around... but I appreciate your efforts, hard work and dedication. I hope to make you proud with what I accomplish with it!

Hey Jim, I keep getting kickback from the WesternUnion site about the "receiver's address". Would you mind letting me know what you put for the proper receiver's (Pierre's) "Address 1, City, Region, Postal Code"?

I've tried wire transfers from my banks twice now and for whatever reason it really stumps them to figure it out. Then it's past 2 pm and they can't do it until Monday, which is no good for me. Any help would be good. Thanks.

I had the same issues Bryan! 3 different WU locations were no help, the phone operators were a joke (and kept hanging up on me), and the chat person told me "Oh, you can't pay a business online! You MUST go to a WU station in order to complete your transaction." The local branches/stations told me that L'Aigle didn't have a "city code" so they couldn't help me... I bit the bullet and went back to the bank... they got 'er done!

In the UK, we can send International Wire transfers directly from our accounts (on-line) - it makes life easy :) Still takes the Bank up to 3 days to send it over (you'd think it'd be instant), but it's nice to log into on-line Banking and just send the funds over. It does take some verification and steps initially to set up a recipient, but makes life a lot simpler then going into the Bank to do it (in person).

When I bought lenses from Russia back in 2010/2011, I had to go into the Bank to do it, but breathed a sigh of relief when it was added to on-line Banking. I set up a transfer for Abel Cine a few years back, so I'd presumed it was commonplace in the States.

It is common Andy. Most banks at least at the level I operate charge a fee. For me to purchase the case, the fee was 35usd. What really hurts is the exchange rate the bank used. XE.com showed a lower rate. Oh, well pay and go forward.
