  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: L'Aigle Exoskeleton

Here is a question for Pierre -

Is it possible to adjust an upper limit on the angle of the arms? In other words, if I want to stop the arms from lifting the gimbal past a certain height, can I set a "stop" at less than full height?

Hi guys if anyone has some ideas for add ons and can get me a cad drawing or preferably something print ready I have access to a machine shop, plenty of state of the art. May be a week or two before I can get on the tormach mill but it may take that long to get the tool path dialed in anyways just so time and all

note to Pierre I'm not trying to get into the manufacturing business but I do make some of my own parts for my own use at s machine shop I pay monthly to access

Just trying to help the group

I wish I had your machine skills ! Seems a little cart ahead of the horse though, wouldn't it be better to wait till there are some units in use ?
Aloha

Based on my extensive testing, the hooks are not premature, they are neccessary to make the Exo work perfectly.

The good news is, Pierre is in agreement and is working on universal hooks that will fit any gimbal.

Hopefully, he will have them ready by NAB so people can test them.

My innovation works in a similar way as the hooks... It allows you to have more control over your gimbal and let's you hand it off and mount and dismount with no assistance - good for the one-man-band types.

That's great to know Carey since you have done extensive testing. I'd still say that machining something now without your or Pierre's instruction or specs is kind of silly. Especially if Pierre is making some. In any case, pretty damn exciting that we will have the "Le Pierre" soon, NAB can't come soon enough !

From the perspective of the Helix owners, the key attachment point is the hooks on to the Helix. No one will do that better than Hien.

Agreed. The Helix is a very different design.

Pierre is making universal hooks for every gimbal except for the Helix. The majority of gimbals out in the wild are designed with the crossbar like the industry standard MōVI, best-selling Ronin, the BS4, the Gistabi etc. etc.

Haha -"industry standard" = the only gimbal that existed at the time. Best selling = the "most affordable" = cheapest. But I am not sure there are actually numbers behind any of this.

Before it's over, I predict the Helix and its cousins will be the "best selling, industry leading premium quality gimbal-based stabilizer." LOL

Never mind Terry... I'm not trying to start a debate. I'm just saying that Pierre is creating universal hooks for the thousands and thousands of other gimbals that currently own the majority of the market. The Helix is one gimbal in this giant market.

Movi still works the best (might be that is has gps), Ronin has some drift, weight... and Movi works handheld and on drones, Ronin not so much. Ronin is defo the best selling one due to the price/performance. Others have to catch up/ are not on the market for as long... Helix is a good competitor due to a different design (optical axis) and has a marked in steadicam world as well (1 axis,...) but yeah Movi is still the industry standard. Most request I get are not for a "gimbal" but for a "movi" even tho they dont care which gimbal...

I am a bit amused by the projections people like to make based on anecdotal evidence. I doubt there is much in the way of empirical information that really backs these claims up. If there is, I'd love to see it.

I just talk from my own experience and experience of my friends and Ive used Movi 5, 10 and 15 alot and also Ronin. Ronin is made like a beast, snow doesnt hurt him at all. Movi is more exposed so not as good as for the work I do.
This is our last project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOfN1TaMX6g and we used both Movi and Ronin on this with Dragons on + Phantoms, drones, cablecame with Ronin on,... (no exo or easy rig - thats why im so interested in one as these locations are not best suited for holiding gimbals and walking in a knee deep snow on an incline :) )
from my experiance Movi works a bit better and lighter is better when it comes to gimbals. Its hard to do the tests on this kinda things as you get the real feedback while shooting real things in real situations,... as i said i assume due to GPS in it as it has an extra info on how you are moving - just my speculation...
If i had a budget to get Movi everytime i would but budgets are not always huge so you have to do a compromise,... and Ronin is not far behind. Havent used Helix yet on a real shoot as there is none in Slovenia but like the optical axis thing a lot, Besteady is just hardly out so will have to see how it works with new firmwares,... and DIY alexmoss gimbals are too much trouble from my experience on a real set.

and Terry there were claims made in this topic how good this exo is when nobody even saw the final product yet :)))

I don't understand what you are reffering to here Terry, please be more specific.

Haha -"industry standard" = the only gimbal that existed at the time.

It is the pioneers that were there before anyone else that do get to set the standards, so that the ones that follow have something to stride to exceed...
Or, as we say in my country - after the war everyone is a general...

Best selling = the "most affordable" = cheapest.

Ronin is not the cheapest by far. Ronin is best selling, because whether you like it or not - it has to date sold more units then anyone else in its category (it crossed to four digits numbers even before it started to ship - while others are still far from reaching 4 digits) due to its performance/cost value...

He was referring to himself... ;o)

Now back to the scheduled programming...

Haha - anecdotal evidence is always right, in the eye of the beholder. LOL

And Peter is a master at turning a discussion into an attack.

I am only pointing out the obvious here: there are no numbers connected with any of these claims. They may "seem" right, and perhaps they are. But the market, while having large potential, is not yet "giant," it is not yet mature enough to declare an "industry standard, and there is no "best selling" since we don't know how many cheapo units have sold from a dozen China-based knockoff companies.

Movi is good. Ronin is good. BeSteady is/will be good. Helix is good. There are others. No hype or made up statistics are needed to affirm this.

I'm struggling to see what any of this has to do with the exo…??? I'm sure most people in this group buy have already chosen their gimbal… conversations about the gimbals only extend as far as "how does [gimbal] work with this exo?" and things of that nature.

Totally agree. And I am all paid up and ready to rock and roll with my Exo as soon as possible.
