  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: L'Aigle Exoskeleton

why i get constantines view is from two points. one is that this was called Easyrig killer, gamechanger,... and all the other stuff and now it looks completely different.
the other one is the community. GB is kinda a "kickstarter" project, we get all the promises,... and we back up with our money the production of the thing. even if there is a deposit it helps companies to estimate if the product will sell or not. and we know there were other GB on here that didnt meet the standards,... some were made so the GB "starter" could get a free unit (not this one),... and that has to stop. I read every post in this 141 page groupbuy, was one of the first on the list but as I saw dates moving all the time i was afraid this would happen and it looks like it did. and i dont like this kind of group buys... the first exo got the product of the IBC award or something and it didnt even work as good so the company changed the whole design... that tells you alot about those rewards and museum pieces,... doesnt it?
i would love to be proven wrong here as that would mean there would be a tool out there to help me shoot all possible scenarios,...
as the rules of GB were changed a few months back so there wouldnt be "scams", project like this should also be supervised. if the promises dont get met,... as its bad for community and we can miss some really GB because of this kind of attitude toward backers and forum users (question not answered, no official videos, excuses about reviews,...)

About the noise, the noise is there, and it might be this very rig, to be fair. And a very close to the rig camera mike. 1.17.-1.36

You reference to steadicam , Steadicam can do this because you can position the sled and camera in various modes , and various angles so you go round sharp corners through doorways even if they are narrow, the goal is that the device allows you do do this and that is because its designed wisely around operation. I never had any problems perform any kind of shot I have been asked with steadicam over 14 years of operation.

So now we make dangerous tools, ok I will remember next time to put protective cloths and a helmet.

Dont forget Iam an end user. Not just a designer. if you can ask questions I can ask too. If you refer to a product as dangerous , I can refer to a product and ask questions.

Bodymounts of all type can be considered dangerous if the user doesnt know how to use them, steadicam, Exos, easyrigs, jibs, dollies, just aout everything out there.

Ban me for that.

regards

Dangerous, as if I run with an easyrig, and bend over a little too much, I have every chances to fall.
The lower center of gravity of an exo, and the facts that when you drop it, it's already beneath you, making any kind of accident your own mistake. While mounting the camera higher than your head is more dangerous.

I have just made an update, on Page 1 Post 6, to gather pictures, renders, drawing, videos... I have limited time so I gathered only the ones posted by Pierre.

The minimal width is 646,5mm = 25,4" as mentionned on page 1.

Yes, busy as hell, pushing suppliers every minute, sitting in factories to put them under pressure... 10 days before NAB.
Allow at least 24 hours to get your questions answered.
I personaly take long hours after office hours during evenings to synchronize with US time. But my daughter needs attention too!

About width, check post #1268. 646,5mm = 25,4"

Carey got one of the 20 pre-production samples. But since we modified a few things, he wants to get a final unit to make the most accurate review. He should get one next week.

Lead time for everyone: monday 20th ETD (right after NAB).

Payments: as agreed, we invite you to wait for Carey’s video, or for your testing live at NAB. But without a significant number of individuals, this is not a GroupBuy anymore and doesn’t deserve this silly price we committed to.

You get the first real exoskeleton on earth for the price of two stabilizer arms on a harness.
You get a full exoskeleton, made of hundreds of expensive parts, for 2/3 of the price of just the serene damper (1x spring, 1x housing, bits and bobs). Constantine, you’re right to come here hostilely to try and protect your business, it’s a far better one than ours on this GB.

Now think of Garrett Brown’s hard times at the beginning, bringing Steadicam on film sets and fighting against human all too human skepticism. Who has still doubts about Steadicam today?

And think of times where a stabilizer cost 100k, a camera 80k, a lense 30k. 2k was the price of... a screw or a cable.

So sit back, relax, no pressure whatsoever, you have nothing to loose, everything to win, cheer up.

your physics dont apply, just like steadicam , if you extent the arm all the way up front you can fall too. That doesnt make it a dangerous device. But we arent here to discuss those devices. there is certain rules when operating, if you dont keep them you create danger for both you the camera and the set. Thats why you get trained.

Gentlemen. Just a friendly mod reminder. Be gentlemen. Be courteous. Group Buys have caused the largest level of friction among this community.

I'm going through this 141 page thread for the first time this evening to see exactly what's transpired here.

oh boy, that's a lot of pages.

So, I will not answer to Constantine, and stay quiet, ok.

a welcomed voice of reason, thanks Phil.

you dont have to hold back, you should see this as technical conversation rather than an argument. There are other threads to refer at those different tools pros and cons, and I can answer them all and discuss pointing out also the weak points, including our devices. and I can show you both proof and videos and not just talk. Thats what its all about. Constructive conversation and not arguments. Also privet messaging is cool if you dont like discussing this in public. You have many options.

Hi Pierre,

Thanks for your update, as your busy, I understand why we don't have a feedback from you monday mail, we will waiting for :) but maybe I can ask here too, when is the deadline for the payment

About this phrase : "Payments: as agreed, we invite you to wait for Carey’s video, or for your testing live at NAB. But without a significant number of individuals, this is not a GroupBuy anymore and doesn’t deserve this silly price we committed to." What do you mean ? if peoples from the list don't confirm the full paid, the group buy is done ?

Have a good day and thanks again :)

Good to know this info Pierre, thanks!

Yes, I got a pre-production sample, as Pierre had mentioned. That's why I have not posted a review. I promised Pierre, before receiving my unit, that I would share my thoughts with him before sharing them with the group.

I discovered some things about the product that I felt could be improved upon. I'm looking at the Exo from a Cinematographer's point of view. I just want an Exoskeleton that removes the weight without removing any of the range of motion, mobility and agility you have when using just a gimbal by itself.

My pre-production model was 35" wide. I could slowly squeeze through a doorway, but not run through it... I complained to Pierre about this problem and he went back to the drawing board and corrected the problem. There were some other minor things that he improved upon as well.

That's why you have not heard a peep out of me about the product... Because I want Pierre to have an opportunity to send me the final unit for review.

Constantine, I have no qualms about any of your questions here. They are all legitimate questions... But I have a big surprise for you... and it's bad news for the Easyrig... But I will wait until I test my final unit to share this info...

By the way, I'll take the Pepsi challenge with the final Exoskeleton against your Easyrig /Serene combo any time you want.

Carey, as the Group Buy organizer, can you please comment on the change of developments regarding Pierre's potential renegging on this Group Buy after already taking payments?

I have no idea what that is, but anyone who would drop out of this GB is a fool.

2K for a product like this is a steal.

I think everyone should take a step back.

From my perspective, we are at this point:

- There have been some changes to the Exo, as listed by Carey.
- This, alongside other factors (manufacturing et al) have contributed to delays, this is pretty normal in these situations, IMHO.
- Pierre has indicated that he's OK with post NAB/Post Carey's final review before final payments go in.
- Some people have already paid (a few did this while ago, to take advantage of the $ vs Euro situation).

Personally, I emailed Pierre Monday regarding my order/payment. He's not got back to me yet, but, if he's replying personally to everyone/answering questions (etc) and chasing up suppliers, preparing for NAB and a visit there (?) - plus having a family life too... I fully understand.!!! I once ran a big company, it was a bit of a nightmare balancing act too... so, let's all just chill out for a little bit.

I'm sure Phil's review on the thread will come to the same understanding too.

So, may I suggest a single 'neat' and short post that just confirms everything (from Pierre) - along the lines of:

- You will have until XXX (insert date here!) time to pay, post NAB and after Carey's review of the 'Final' release version of the Exo.
- Original T&C's stand (ie 14 days to return if not happy, less any costs/postage etc).
- Add any other things I've missed/forgotten (that are important!) here :)

Let's just lock it all off and make it nice and simple :)

ohhh i thought the review was already done but your computer died... then you said that you are busy and the review is a week away... interesting :)

Yes, my computer did die.

My review and the video I shot ARE TWO SEPARATE THINGS.

Don't imply that I'm lying. I take offense to that.

Here are the facts:

1. I shot video with the Exo that I was trying to transcode when my mother board or graphics card died.

2. I am holding off on posting a review until I get the final revised Exo to test. Per my agreement with Pierre.

3. I'm away on a shoot right now. That means I'm limited in my availability because I'm trying to earn money to feed my family.

English is not my first language so i might got it wrong but let me just give you the things we are seeing and im not calling you a liar:

23.03.2015:
My tests are complete. I am transcoding media as we speak. I will have a teaser for you guys soon...

24.03.2015:

Please, please, please be patient and give me another 10 days to give you a very thorough, top to bottom review of this product.

28.03.2015:
It took me 30 seconds to post the pic... It will take approximately 8 more days to you my review.

28.03.2015:
You can check back here in 8-10 days for my full review.
That's final.
Thank you.

less then 24 hours ago:
I just need another week or so... Awaiting word from Pierre.

so not sure what the two different things are from the video and review. also are you saying you didnt know until today you had a pre-produciton model?
