  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: L'Aigle Exoskeleton

I will admit, I'm taking this step with some hesitation due to the issues with the other GB - bet you know which one…
If that unit had been in my hands and performing as promised, there would have been a real tug of war deciding which exo would better suit my needs.
Due to alignment of time/space, that decision has narrowed down.

Let's hope that the other GB product does not end up deleted from my shopping list and the L'Aigle proves to be a suitable match.

Thanks Brian. I never let one bad experience keep me from trying the same thing again. If that we're the case, I would never date again :) The key is to learn from previous experiences. The GB you speak of was on a highly sophisticated product by a fledging company. Apples and oranges.

As clarification, the hesitation is not connected to group buys in general or how that other GB sits today. It is directly related to the end product that is delivered. In this case, these "apples and oranges" (gimbal and exo) are intended to work together.

Often, the material I am tasked to acquire does not have the luxury of a second take. If the earlier GB product - when delivered - ends up not meeting the quality standards I require, the need for an exoskeleton support system is diminished.
In other words, if the apple is dysfunctional and cannot be trusted, I won't need the orange.

Crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

Good work on the GB!

To Make a good support system with steadicam technology, like articulated spring arms, and good support vests , its not easy at all, , and I dont think that just because you see companies selling gear cheap , that means that this gear necessarily works as it should, and all the rest of the companies that make expensive gear are just cheat and make buckets of money selling an easy technology that can be made with a few hundred usd.

Iam afraid this is not the case at all, and there is a reason why pro gpi arms cost 20k, and laing total rig costs 600 usd. A lot of people in the past came here trying to tell that this is all a lot of BS and a 600 dollar steadicam is all you need, but none of those ever shot a project nor worked as a steadicam operator ever in his life. On the other hand , a lot of people that thought that steadicam is an easy craft, and all they had to do was to just buy one and shoot on their own, instead of hiring a steadicam operator , and save the money , bought cheap gear and even more expensive gear and all end up as cloth hungers , or sold in less than a year.

so no apples and oranges here and I agree with Brian.

the problem is, that for certain gear, you need to be qualified to bring an opinion and not only that, you need to test the gear first and test it over and over in real life shots , to discover how good is build, how well it works etc. The only people that are qualified to do this is Steadicam operators that make their living out of this profession, investing wisely for their gear even if that is an expensive task. All the rest occasional operators, that maybe took a workshop once, and do the occasional shot once a year, just because they had some cash and bought a cheap knock off, will never be able to tell you how good a rig is , that carries steadicam technology, and how well it works.
The reason is , because they all work in some extent, from the cheap chinese rig to the more expensive knock off. And someone that has never worked professionally as an operator with good professional gear will never know the difference because he cannot tell. He will get excited from the first day and say woaw this is great, who needs a 20k arm, who needs a 25k sled, and who needs a 6k vest, I can do the same with 600 usd.

Sorry to say , this is hardly the case,

This is not made to say which exo is good or bad, this is made to say how should people judge equipment before buying it, and that is only one way doing this.
Be experienced enough first, then go test the real thing.

the rest is gambling and though it might very well end up good at the end, its still gambling

just for the record, Iam very aware of all existing companies around this technology, and their history, records and success in this business , having worked as a professional for a dozen years , and have tested or worked with 90% of all available up to date equipment around steadicam. the rest 10% is new , and I m not operating any more, so I can only test it in exhibitions.Even the most expensive gear in this business has to be tested before you buy it and might have flows. Just like the very first G50 G70 ARMS just an example.

my 2 cents

CONGRATS Carey... A great achievement is almost concluded here!!

..Whoa...wait a second..there isn't even a FINISHED product to see yet. Not to mention footage.
Not to mention deposits. Not to mention how many people will follow through out of 100.

For now this is just a list of 100 people in line for something that doesn't yet exist.

Thank you to everyone whose name is on the list. We've reached the best possible discount bracket for the L'Aigle Exoskeleton. We've also helped them to improve their design with Reduser input (which is always the case with group buys).

Now, please just relax and wait for L'Aigle to release the pictures of the final production unit.
No need to comment any further until we've seen the final unit. I did my job, now we'll wait for the manufacturer to do theirs.
Thank you Ketch for appreciating the amount of work it takes to get 100 people to agree to anything.

And that is exactly what I give my congratulations to Carey about... He has done a great job and deserves supports!!

Question:

Is there a way it could be negotiated that there could be a return period after delivery if the product is not up to
specs / expectations ?

It seems that nobody will be able to really test the device prior to delivery. And this being an overseas seller and all.
Or maybe we could even go through a US importer ?

Reason is that I just got burnt on a reduser group buy with a very renowned company (which I will not name and shame)
where the product did absolutely not perform the way it was promised. The company was graceful enough to issue a full refund - however
this was a US company.

Any thoughts on that ?

It is clearly stated up front, thank goodness and thank you Carey ! I'm still a little gun shy on group buys since getting screwed by View Factor early on in the red one days.
Aloha
