  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: L'Aigle Exoskeleton

It is so important to have an exoskeleton along with your gimbal. I just composed a bit of a complex shot, using the M15, with a bare bones set-up, which had to be choreograped and executed perfectly. 1... 2... 3 takes of it and I was sweating bullets. I would not even attempt to do this all day on a feature without an exoskeleton. I don't even care so much about the 4th axis as I do about it taking the weight off. I can walk to create a smooth 4th axis - especially if the gimbal weighs a mere grams.

The bottom line is, to compose, choreograph and execute a complex shot, by yourself, with perfection - you will need an exoskeleton. There's no way around this fact. If you have lower standards of what a perfect shot looks like, then you probably won't need one. But if you want the perfect shot you envision in your head - perfectly composed, perfectly smooth, correct DOF, no earthquake at the end etc., then you will not only want, but need this support system.

Hey Carey,
I'm in. Thanks. Troy

Hi Carey

50/50 on this - but add me to the list and I'll await pics to decide. As you said in an earlier post, nothing to loose by adding at this point.

Is there any way to operate this solo. I mean to pull focus, change iris and zoom without disconnect one arm from the rig? And of course run record and stop the camera.

Ok, I'm not 100% sure either, but I'm in too. Let's see how's it gonna be with the final characteristics...

I am in with the same caveat as Vassili. Need to see the final product and for Carey to review it.

Good question. Just being able to start/stop would be important for me.

Good question. Just being able to start/stop would be important for me.

Put is this way, there's no way you could pull focus or operate a thumbstick to control pan and tilt on a gimbal WITHOUT some sort of support, or a second and third operator. If all weight is taken off of your hands, it stands to reason that you'd be able to handle pulling your own focus (provided you have the appropriate gear) or operating pan and tilt (like with the BS4 thumbstick), or run start/stop.

Now, as far as changing iris and zoom, it depends on what you mean. If you have a wireless FIZ controller with that ability, then the same answer as above applies. With zoom, you would need a wireless controller in order to not disturb the camera - if you're doing a zoom shot. Now...

If you want to set iris to a fixed point, shoot, then lighting conditions change and you want to change your F-stop, or change your focal length, I don't see why you couldn't hold the camera with one hand and change its functions with the other. Remember: it weighs very little with the help of the exoskeleton.

I'll tell you what you can't do. You can't do ANY of the above while using a gimbal without some sort of support.
