  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY - Kessler Shuttle Dolly

Guys, how do you think is it possible to make movement from back to forward? We will see the rails in this case?
With Danna Dolly we can turn dolly upside down and what about Shuttle doly? Can we do movement from back to forward or only from left to right?
And in comparation with Danna Dolly, Danna dolly wheels are soft but Shuttle dolly wheels seems hard is there no any microvibration?

Thank you

You shouldn't have any issues unless you are crazy wide. It's all about how you use the tool.

Ok, but if we want a long rails, about 10m? in this case I can turn upside down DannaDolly and shoot easly,

If you are doing a push in or pull out you should consider a riser so you don't see the rail supports. 6-12"

Dana Dolly turns their wheels, so that implies a durometer of 90a or harder. I've been using custom cast flanged wheels of a durometer o 80a, and they have to be ground, not cut. It all depends on the surface texture of the rails and wheels themselves, in regards to smoothness. And bearings.

You can put it in inverted mode if you add on the keeper-grabber wheels.

Is the shuttle dolly a newer version of the Shuttlepod?

This is the ideal setup for RED cameras. Setups up much faster, is portable, and works with al their accessories.

Hey Chris, put me down for one.

Added!

A question about inverted mode and using the grabber wheels. I cant do this with the Shuttlepod as it starts to sag as it approaches the 4ft extensions. Same when positioned upright. I need to support the Shuttlepod rails every 4ft with a solid tripod and than it works perfect.

Does the Shuttle dolly come in 4ft pieces as well? If so how do you support it every 4ft from above to stop it sagging when in inverted mode?

This dolly uses speed rail which is MUCh stronger than their original shuttle pod rail. Kessler doesn't sell speed rail...though they are about to release their new break apart rails which also function as legs. I just purchased some cheap film tools speed rail in a 5 foot section. Even at longer lengths, speed rail is really strong. Sometimes you may need a center support, but more often than not, that's not even needed.

Ok great. You wouldn't happen to have a link to the speed rail?

Kessler hasn't gone live with their new rail...it's coming soon. I've been chomping at the bit to get at least a 2-piece set of them just to show you guys, but they only have 1 set in house, which they need for their own purposes.

For the interim, you could pick up some speed rail at your local hardware store, which would save on shipping since you're in Australia. You can use any width from 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" speed rail.

Sorry to keep this off topic but maybe one more slightly OT question... :-)

Chris - what constitutes "speed rail" at the local hardware store? Is it just pipe of a certain thickness and diameter? What then will be the advantage of Kessler's new product? Thanks.

Here's the speed rail I have now: http://www.filmtools.com/speed-rail-1-25.html

Advantages over the Dana Dolly is that you have ample mounting points for various accessories, it comes with a lifetime warranty (don't think Dana does) and it works will Kessler's Moco options. Kessler's new rail/leg system which is right around the corner is pretty bad-ass too!

Thanks. I guess I could look for these specs at the hardware store in order to save shipping - which is substantial.

Update: Just checked, minimum $70 shipping for two eight foot lengths. :-(
