Group Buy - Hexolux LED Spotlights

Hey Pete,

Any word on the 800 hexolux?

Thanks Pete! Used to use a couple of D7 for sometime now but only used them on smaller sets till a couple of days ago when I decided to bring them on a bigger job I DPed. We had multiples HMI and Kinos and were running all day pretty fast with many scenes. I was worried since my gaffer and second electrician never used an Hexolux before. At the end of the day we were all amazed about how greatly useful they were and how well they performed mixed with bigger sources. I had carefully planned all set-ups before, but we found ourselves achieving beautifully lit non planned extra staff on the fly, when HMI where so slow to move..

Hey, has anybody heard anything about when Hexolux is going to sell more lights? Their D7 Daylight fresnel has been "out of stock" for many months, and I have written more than 3 emails to them with no response.

Hi Joseph,

I'm sorry about the email! I have only been able to find one email from you, which I replied to. Please re-email me any questions.

The lights are in stock. The D7 was out of stock for three weeks, we are rapidly catching up with demand. Whenever one of our items is out of stock, there is a link you can click so you can be notified when it is back in stock.

Hi Paul,

We are doing beta field testing to refine the design, its 2-3 months away from production. Let me know if you want to be part of the beta.

Guys, just a heads-up on using these lights with battery power. Other than a brief test when I got the lights, I tried this for the first time a week ago and had some trouble. My light would come on briefly and then either shut down or go into a strange mode where it would not respond to control. I tried two lights and two batteries and the results were the same. I finally was able to get the lights on at about 60% power, which made me suspect they were pulling too much power at the higher illuminations. Pete has confirmed that some V-mounts limit the power and the lights need too much. I am using Blueshape Granite 090 batteries, which I think are pretty good quality, so it was a surprise to me to find this limitation. At 60% these lights are not really bright enough for my use.

Pete mentioned that some newer high-output batteries work better. I just bought the Blueshapes so that is a long-term solution for me. My suggestion is that if you are using battery power you test them thoroughly before your shoot.

My experience is that they will not work at full power using batteries - at least the RED Bricks that I was using. If you dial them down to about 75-80%, they will work fine. I believe this info is somewhere on the web site but can't really recall where.

This from Hexolux, quite a bit ago:

"The HD (for high demand) batteries are the best we have found. They handle 12A discharge rate with 15A peaks. This is substantially more than other batteries, including the normal Blueshapes. Here's the site: BLUESHAPE USA - V-mount Batterie"s"

I have PAG links-96's, which I sadly haven't had need to try on the Hexolux, but on the Area 48's, which I also own, it is necessary to link two of them to get 100% output, because of draw. I really like both lights, however and each has performed just "spot on."

Thank you very much

Fury

I had mine on batteries for broadcast 190's and the light would shut off at around 90 or so, pulling power and and replugging restarted it.
So I left them around 90 and they work fine.
Maybe this has something to do with the dtap power plug

I am too. I was interested in the first also, LOL, but my bank account wasn't. Priority to the Helix. Still couldn't move on these lights at the moment, but maybe in 2-3 months I could pull the trigger.
Hehe.

Are there any news about a second groupbuy? Is there any hope for this?

Hi All,

We have received many requests for another group buy, so we are going to offer a second group buy.
We will open up ordering on September 2nd and close it on September 8th.

We will ship the kits the same day you order them.

We are updating the website next week to reflect some of the refinements to the latest version.

The kits have custom foam in a Pelican 1610 with wheels. Its a very compact kit, packed with:
Two D7 150w Daylight Fresnels
Two sets of adjustable-friction Barn-Doors.
One Battery mount
A redesigned Softbox with 6 interchangeable diffusion layers
Two Mathews reverse stands
and Long power cables.

The price is $4500 plus shipping.
The total cost would normally be $6050 - a savings of $1550

Let me know if we should start a new thread for this.

Thanks,
Pete

Hi Pete,

I would suggest a new Gb thread.

From the last GB my set of D7.I use them in the field off of IDX Endura 9, 87wh batts at 100 percent. And get about 30 to 45 min depending on how old my battery. I would say that most batteries will power them at 70 percent and you will have to bring them up from there to see what your batteries will support but really a great batt powered light.

Lent them to a Key Gaffer friend of mine and he now calls them the Iron Man lights for the Red metal and hex look along with how strong they are for size and power.

Here are a couple of shots of the lights and a macro Leica 100mm 2.8 APO, of them in use. Great for the field, just want to have a umbrella thingy if it rains. or they run cool enough you could use a very simple sheet of plastic as long as they have ventilation for the fan.photo 6.jpgphoto 5.jpgPraying mantiA004_C003_0728E7.0000000.jpgphoto 3.jpg
