  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY - Digital Sputnik DS1 - Pt II

Has anybody been contacted by Core or are they waiting until after the GB is over?

I thought Core was reaching out. They do have everyone's contact info and orders. I will follow up today and get this sorted. Thanks for the patience.

Just got my invoice from Core. I got charged $790 instead of $750 for the HC9 mini kit and that's before shipping. Is that what everyone else got charged?

Yeah, just got my core nano invoice, a little disappointed with the deal, after tax and shipping I'm saving less than $5 over B&H. That does not make financial sense for me. I'm gonna just cancel that part of my order, thanks.

Hello all,

Zack is on vacation this week and I wasn't up-to-date on this GB, but just happened to take a look and inquired about some of these comments above.

There was some miscommunication on our end, so everyone please keep an eye out for an updated invoice shortly.

Thank you all for your support!

Best,

Caitlin Stroke

Sorry about that. Core is getting the invoices revised ASAP to correct the price and the battery kits will be free shipping. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.

Cool. Thanks Travis.

Group Buy is now CLOSED. Thanks to everyone who participated in this! Welcome to the Digital Sputnik family.

I will continue monitoring this thread and answering questions until everyone has received their units and is happy with their order.

Got my units yesterday! Solid set, struggled a little bit with the app (pro tip use the blue app not the red one) but now that it's setup they are awesome. Can't wait until the voyager app is merged and you can pixel map with all Sputnik units and control everything from the same place. Thanks again Travis.

I can't seem to figure out putting the blade together, the instructions are not that clear. Anybody have any tips?

First time I tried to put it together I had the back flipped around the wrong way. The scoop/ tilted side should be closest to the fixture. That leaves a ledge on top to insert the diffuser. Hope that helps.

I have the back part and the sides correct I believe, but I can't get the bottom plate, which is why I think I can't get it attached to the unit.

Got my kits and I am pretty amazed. Super powerful lights in a small footprint that work REALLY well with the app once you get it set up...

Videos to set up the lights to work with the app: https://www.digitalsputnik.com/learn_tag/ds1/

When you add the second light, change the channel to 1 on the head, but in the app, the setting under fixture is 11, not 1. For a light on channel 3, fixture value should be 31. Odd quirk that took me a second to sort out.

My one thing I was unclear of was that by paying for a Gold Mount setup, I assumed we would be getting the V-lock plates as well. I was a bit disappointed when I opened the boxes and only saw AB mounts. It would be super useful when traveling, and if Anton's are not available.

Does anyone know of any app that can be used to control the ds1's to do pixel mapping or effects other that the digital sputnik app? looking for something that utilizes art net that will allow me to do effects similar to the light panels gemini, sky panel, or voyagers.

No pixel mapping yet for ds1 (for us at least) they may be merging the apps so you can eventually. Should be able to use dmx dongle to make another fixture work like voyager. 1 dongle is supposed to ship as a perk to preorders.

This is not for just accessories, you had to get the group buy ds1 units if you wanted to add any of the approved accessories at a discount.

i don't see my name on the list and i asked for 2 blades. ?

Yo Rich! Blades aren't on the group buy if you read the post. Everyone on the master list purchased lights. I can reach out to DS for ya and ask but it doesn't make much financial sense for them to do a la carte discounts on aks for one-off orders. I will reach out though and I'll be in touch!

If it doesn't work out with DS directly, I have a couple blades from the last Group Buy that I could sell you. Totally unused, I took them out of the box and put them straight into storage. PM me if you're interested.

Afte a weekend of fiddling around in Fusion360, I designed a bracket which relocates the PSU separate from the head onto the light stand. I plan on traveling with mine and want to utilize these Manfrotto travel stands I have, and the weight of the head, PSU and two batteries is too much for the stand without significant sandbags down below (which I won't be traveling with).

This bracket I designed screws into a super clamp and allows the relocation of batteries / PSU to lower the center of gravity- and less of a chance to tip over. The batteries actually act as a sort of sandbag... Exactly what I was looking for as a compact travel setup....

Now all I need is a longer cable from Digital Sputnik and we'll be good to go!
