  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY: Cinegears Wireless Follow Focus Christmas Special!

Chris, this is a very encouraging news. Waiting for release.

BTW, my unit suddenly back to life. I found that there is a mistake in the Manual on the back of the Main Unit. There is said that to match both units user need to press buttons on the Main Unit for a 3 seconds, wait for flashing lights on it, and then press the Code button on the Motor. It's not right. It's needed to press button on the Motor FIRST, and until the led is green press the buttons on the Main Unit. In this way the units will find each other. In the way that is in the Manual - they don't. Take into consideration please.

Hi Oleksiy, thank you very much for the clarification. Yes it is correct to press the code button on the MOTOR for 3 sec first and then press the button on the CONTROLLER.
Does this make more sense to everyone? Please let us know and we can make future improvement.

And we are also glad here to provide the latest video instruction with some wireless follow focus motor maintenance tips.

Thanks for video, James! That's very useful. I will try to remove play in my motor tomorrow.

Chris also said that there will be a video with instruction how to reduce a "stepping effect" on the motor. Will it be released too? Thanks.

This was what I was referring to Oleksiy. Try that and hopefully it addresses your problem.

Well, I've tried this. Sorry to say but this solution doesn't affect on amount of gears play. This is because the reason of the play is not only in the arrangement of the motor towards the small gear.
I've made a video showing this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QAdA1-GoAw

I made all steps of the instruction video, my motor is totally pressed to the small gear. But it still have a play. As you can see not only this assembly making the play. Here is the two reasons:
2choyzm.jpg

1. The size of the teeth of the small gear is smaller then worm-gear has. Simply say - this two gears doesn't match each other.
2. The shaft of the motor has his own play - it moves forward and backward along his axis.
This two plays sum up and gives to the main gear that big play.

Regret to say, guys, but this is the build quality issue...

P.S. Another two words about quality - 2 of 6 screws of the cap after my two opening are twisting endlessly and not tighten the cap well anymore (I didn't make any effort screwing them down - it looks like they died when I screw them up). Another two has a first signs of wearing out on the slots. I suspect the third opening the cap will be the last for them too. Seems like the screws made of iron (instead of steel) or silumin :(

Oh, and also this video solution doesn't solve any problem with "stepping movement" of the motor, because it has a different nature. With opened motor I found that the things that we call "step" is the "dead" positions of the motor's shaft between impulses. The step between this impulses is too big. This is electronic issue so it can't be mechanically solved by users as Chris said.

Yes, it make big sense - I was in one step of sending my unit from Europe to Canada to repair.

If you're having so many issues Oleskiy, send it back for repair.

Excuse me, repair what? My issues are not unique - as I understand well all the customers who commented on last several pages here all have the same problems with play and stepping movement. There's nothing to repair because nothing was broken or defective. It's just general construction issues of the Cinegears unit that couldn't be discovered by watching official video promos until you buy it. That's all.
It would be great if this issues could be repaired by new upgraded parts, but due to Cinegears policy with their previous upgrades, I'd rather expect from them a proposition to buy a new unit.

Hi Oleksiy, I do not see this kind issue very often, I do not know why you get this issue.can you send your motor to our company? In the past few years, 60% of the RMA / Repair equipment has no issue at all, they just need to be re-configured.

Thank you James. I have a project now, after its ending I will contact CG support for repair.

Hi Oleksly,

From what I can see, I can tell that during your modification processing, between the motor and motor case, a 2mm steel ball is missing now, this part can not be installed by hand, you should not lost it. please send your motor to Congears, they should be able to fix it for you.

Hmm.. That's interesting. I opened the cap of the motor only two times: the first one when the internal screw nut of the power port was loosen (I tightened it) and second - my try to adjust position of the motor by video manual. And I can swear I didn't pull out any parts. I made my modifications on my workbench and even if I lost something and haven't note that, I'd find this part later. But I didn't. In what place this steel ball have to be and what it does for motor? Thank you.

Hi all,
A Focus Puller friend of my arrived some time ago on set with a cinegears express kit. Seems a nice kit but we discovered a mounting problem. This means the clamp with use of the 15mm inserts results in overtighten the knob (the clamp is really strong attached to the motor), but the attachtment to the 15mm rod is not strong at all. This means the motor is not tighten enough to the rails (rods) and keeps moving. Also the clamp itself with the 19mm does not mount strong enough to 19mm rails (rods). Anyone has the same experience ? How did you solve this, use of another brand bushes or ... ?

You can tighten it via the little screw as well. If that still doesn't work and you are having issues, put a little piece of gaff tape inside the 15mm mount, and that should prevent slipping. Done that before with other 15mm stuff.

I opened my motor and had a look. Oleksiy i absolutely right. The play is a combination of the worm gear to 1st gear AND most importantly up and down movement in the motor axis.

There is indeed a steel ball in each end of the motor shaft (on top of the worm gear and under the motor), but the tolerances are just too big, and therefore the excessive play in the whole mechanism.

This is why they cant "repair" it. Bad design.

BTW Stephen is mistaken, the ball is clearly still in place in Oleksiys picture

Hi Chris, thank you for your response.. but, what little screw ? Can you show this little screw in a picture ? Cheers, Erik

Hi Redusers,

This is an announcement from Cinegears.
I wish this community should respect the original design and copy right.
CAME-TV: (XIAMEN CAME Photographic Equipment Co.,Ltd) put stickers over SFAIMO(Cinegears) equipment call it their own new product,Tom Antos made review of it bu put sticker on SFAIMO Wireless Follow Focus. CAME-TV also illegally cloned Cinegears equipment and start selling them.

Cinegears Wireless Follow Focus products are patent products, Cinegears ( SFAIMO )has been developing wireless follow focus equipment, including finger wheel, multi axis, high torque motor... since year 2013. SFAIMO: (Guangzhou SunFieldAimo Electron Technology Co., Ltd.) and Cine gears Inc. are filing lawsuit against Came-TV on cloning the equipment.

Came TV left another big shame to the film equipment development history.
Came TV is currently facing illegal copying Cinegears product on both the looks and the functions.

Sincerely,
