GROUP BUY: Cinegears Wireless Follow Focus Christmas Special!

Steven, but what have to do the customers who bought old version of motors and controllers? Before I buy Cinegears Follow Focus I viewed tons of the videos on the Cinegears official Youtube channel to understand what I will get. NON of them discover the peculiarity called "stepping movement". In all videos the person who drive the focus turn the wheel faster as it could be for seeing stepping effect. I don't think that there is coincidence. Don't you think it's kind of ...unfair?
The result of it - now we (me and other users with old motors) owning devices that we can use in limited situations because of that "stepping":
- no iris (I don't know the lenses where changing the iris to 1 or 2 stops can be made with long go of the iris ring),
- no long lenses (focusing from eyes to ears)
- no photo lenses
- no macro lenses

Hi Oleksiy

This is James from Cinegears.
The new Cinegears follow focus can work on iris, long lenses. photo lenses. and macro lenses.

Steven is at Beijing BIRTV 2015 and is having a difficult time answering these only his phone with limited internet access.
So I will help answer these questions.

The new function allow the users to have more control features, may users like it a lot. However, it seems like the new function also create some confusion, a little practice may required.

1), the speed dial is acting as a scalar in real time. You can use the speed dial to let the mirco chip (CPU) help you by calibrating the speed of your fingers/hand movement.

2), When you change your focus with very slow speed, you can turn the speed dial to lower position to smooth out the focus movement.

Thus, when you do slow focus pulling, the speed dial need to be in low speed position.
When you do fast focus pulling, the speed dial need to be in high speed position.

3), when you use the motor without the lens, the motor is trying to detect the resistance from the lens. (The motor run on feed back function to make sure even when the your lens is old and ruff, the motor can still turn smoothly)
Without resistance, the motor will accelerate, then realized its too fast because there is no resistance from the lens, then slow down, then slow down too much because there is no momentum from the lens, then accelerate.....

I will post a video instruction to demonstrate how to do a supper slower focus pulling with Cinegears wireless follow focus soon.

How recent is this? In other words does this work with all controllers? Is there a firmware update for older controllers? Part of the problem is that there are so mony different versions of Cinegears stuff and as far as I know there has never been a firmware upgrade to the controller, or the motor for that matter. Is there any way to tell what you are working with?

Anyone know the polarity of the cinegears motor? I need to buy a cable to power from my red quick plate but can't find the polarity for the motor

So I have been back and forth with support and i sadly can't rectify this issue. have sent multiple emails requesting return for refund, but as yet no replies
hoping i can sort this out asap and move on.

Gave it a good go and stuck it out but it was not to be

Cinegears had an issue with the sale of our FF kit. They promised an Epic record trigger to make up for it. As with Jason, I have sent multiple emails, for over a year now, and still no trigger.. We would also like to see firmware updates for original product. To my knowledge, there are none.

Hi Reduser members,
Cinegears Inc moved Steven from Cinegears Canada to Cinegears China.
But censorship in China is preventing Steven to access most of the Internet.
He cannot access to websites like youtube, Facebook, Google, ... etc etc
Sometimes he can access to HK network and help out the community, but its very unreliable.
If anyone has any question or request, you can sent it to support@cinegears.com

Hello. Today my Cinegears Wireless Follow Focus suddenly stopped working.
I put it on the lens that I used yesterday. I didn't calibrate it because the calibration settings for this lens was the same as yesterday. But when I turn on both units the motor was rotating only for 15 degrees, not more. I was very surprised with this and pressed the buttons to recalibrate. After this step the motor stopped moving at all. I tried both manual and automatic calibrations - motor doesn't respond.
Have anyone had this issue?

And another question. Could somebody from Cinegears officials comment this please: http://www.came-tv.com/cametv-wireless-follow-focus-controller-motor-inside-receiver-p-660.html
It's a full clone. Fullest! Units, parts. Even the case, foam and arrangement inside are the same. It looks like the same factory-made Cinegears FF (that all made in China as we know) just with another label.
$880! Almost 3x cheaper that I paid for my kit in Canada.

P.S. I see some of the official dealers that listed on Cinegears website began to sell this new "Cheaper Cinegears FF":
http://www.besteadyshop.com/en/index.php/single-axis-wireless-follow-focus-kit-plus.html - no brand label at all (you can put your own HA HA). Twice cheaper.
http://www.besteadyshop.com/en/index.php/cinegears.html - this is the page with official Cinegears' equipment. No kits anymore.

What's going on?

this doesnt seem surprising at all, almost everything is manufactured in china or korea then rebranded for other markets. if any gear seems too cheap to be true, then be rest assured youll see it with a Chinese brand name for half the price a year after the licensing deal runs out.

Hi everyone, we had recently noticed that there were someone in the market bargaining away the refurbished units of CINEGEARS products.
The company is investigating the case now and believe they are selling previous used models by sticking CINEGEARS logo.
Unfortunately, this could due to a batch of inner testing units outflowed from mainland China, CINEGEARS has restriction on these products. Anyone who sells degraded units with regular price outside China will be removed from dealer list. (One or two of them might decided to sell off at lower price after the punishment).:gnorsi:

A new video is coming to address the backlash/stepping some people have been experiencing with their units on very slow movements/focusing. This will be user fixable. They will walk you through the process.

That's great. My Cinegears unit works well (only did a few tests so far) but I'm disappointed in lack of firmware upgrades and/or instructions to adjust the smoothness.
I bought another wireless focus system - the much cheaper MotionDogs Lenzhound, and they already have a few firmware upgrades and instructions to adjust the torque and smoothness of the system by switching some DIP switches inside the receiver.

Chris, this is a very encouraging news. Waiting for release.

BTW, my unit suddenly back to life. I found that there is a mistake in the Manual on the back of the Main Unit. There is said that to match both units user need to press buttons on the Main Unit for a 3 seconds, wait for flashing lights on it, and then press the Code button on the Motor. It's not right. It's needed to press button on the Motor FIRST, and until the led is green press the buttons on the Main Unit. In this way the units will find each other. In the way that is in the Manual - they don't. Take into consideration please.

Yeah, the procedure for pairing the motor to the transmitter is backwards in the manual. that will make you pull your hair out. They should maybe, you know make sure it's right if they are going to actually print it on the receiver.
