GROUP BUY: Cinegears Wireless Follow Focus Christmas Special!

Hi Jason,

Normally the motor should function like the following video

When focus puller using a wireless follow focu system on cinema lenses, Please thinking and using in a Digital way. Users can always re-mapping or re-range the digital motor or digital controller. This is the key to make sure you can always get your job done in any wireless focus control situation.

The equipment use 14 bits DAC and ADC with 18 bits resolution.
This should allow the user to accurately control the lens.

All the FF units are electronic and use pulse and step size signal to calculate and move lens. (computer, mouse, keyboard, touch screen)
If the range FF motor is lower to a few mm (small movement for motor and large movement for controller), the resolution of the motor is going to show and the movement is going to be "steppy".

When controlling Iris, the user can shorten the range of the controller (small movement for motor and controller) to prevent the motor from stepping. (if its necessary)

Can anyone tell me the difference between the express and the express plus controller knob? I can't find a good comparison photo or video.

Yes, guys, I will be much obliged to you all for the videos of your motors work. Thanks

Just another thoughts:
1. When I touch with fingers the gear of my motor, when it's turned off or in stand by, it has a 2mm play. But in work it's ok, it turns forward and backward normal, without play. Does your motors have the play too?
2. The "Speed" wheel doesn't affect to anything when my system is in manual mode. Speed wheel works only in "Preset Mode" - for changing the speed between A,B,C or D focus presets. Does your speed wheel works in manual mode?

Steven, what is the default resolution of the Cinegears motor? Seems to be it's pretty small in my motor that it gives big stepped movement. I don't see such big "stepping" in the video you provided, it looks smooth in all "Speed" position, but mine have a huge steps. And it's not an acquired problem caused by damage or some else physical affect. It's the same as Jason said about his motor - it works in such way from the moment I opened the box and started using.

Could you please look my video and comment with conclusion about my motor? Thank you.

hi Steven
OK here is the video of my brand new Hi torque motor showing the stepping that

This seems to be the same issue as Oleksiy has shown and reported.

ALSO!!!! the Speed dial MOST DEFINITELY AFFECTS THE MOTOR SPEED in MANUAL mode AND preset mode
this really shouldn't be the case right???

Jason and Oleksiy

For the older controller and motor (Oleksiy), the speed dial is use to control the speed in preset mode
For the newer controller and motor (Jason), the speed dial is use to control the speed in both manual mode and preset mode.

The new controller and motor can switch between two operating mode: smoothness priority mode and respond priority mode.
Jason please read the instruction manual by clicking here
And yes the speed dial definitely affect your speed.

Oleksiy, judging by the damages on the bolt. I assume you didn't hold on to the gear when you screw in the bolt.
This means all the torque from your screw driver all goes on to the teeth on internal gears. (there are 3 of them)
The internal gear 1 (the one right under the external gear) is probably damaged and might need to be replace.

When the gear turn, the internal gears also grind against each other and shorten the teeth. (no matter now much gear oil you put on) Over time the play will increase.
If you find that the play is starting to affect your work, sent the motor back and we will repair for you.

Play is also one of the main causes of noise and other problems

Also Oleksiy your controller nob might be a little lose which cause the input signal to be not uniform.
Click here to watch how to repair it.

If you have any other question, you should contact the tech support at cinegears. support@cinegears.com

Hi Greg

The express plus controller has two hard stop (that can slide around the nob) on the controller which allow fast setup for controller mapping or use it like a preset function.

The express controller does not have this function.

Thanks Steven
so the jerkiness in my video.. ?
Regardless of smoothing mode this can't be right no?
j

Set up the smoothness mode, control the speed dial, remap the motor and controller.

And contact the support@cinegears.com

The electrical engineers can give you more info on how to set up your equipment.
If the tech team decides that the equipment is damaged, sent the equipment back through RMA and the repair team will repair or renew your equipment.

Just want to chime in. My motor was stuck and I tried to email, but no reply. Then I went to the cinegear website and sent of an rma. Got a reply within minutes. Great respond from Jason Kuo. I was about to send my unit in for repair, but an exchange with James solved my problem. Great customer service.

Just to add that my kit came back in pristine condition.

My case was an odd one caused by mis-communication.

I dont believe everyone else would have the same situation as I have.

Thanks the Cinegears team for making this all go right for me.

And also thanks for the mini mount.

I dont use it with my Controller but my SmallHD DP4 loves it ;)

So neither of the smoothness modes make any difference to the jerkiness that i still see in the video below and on set daily..
I have had to stop using the kit as we lost takes on my last shoot due to this issue

I have emailed cinqegears support and am now awaiting reply. will report back here with progress

I can confirm the same problem on the brand new standard torque motor. Tried to use it on iris and it was steppy as hell.
