  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY: Cinegears Wireless Follow Focus Christmas Special!

Hi Adam & Jason, Please try the following:

The response priority mode allows the motor to have a very sharp response and will mimic the moment of the users' hands.
The smoothness priority mode allows the motor to reduce the sharp moment from the users’ hands which provide a very high quality and smooth focus.
Switching between two operation modes can be easily achieved from the controller.

For Standard Controller, press O+REC+A to start response priority
Press O+REC+B to start response priority
The turning speed and respond can also be set by the speed control dial

Thanks steve for posting that. Needs a slight edit though :-) and to be added to the user manual

imho the units should ship in full speed full responsiveness mode and the speed dial should NOT affect focus pulling, just be used if you want to in the A-B key point pulling mode and not in normal use at all or be able to be disabled all together.
To be pulling sharps and look down to see you've bumped a 'speed dial' that changes all your inputs to a snails pace is less than ideal

Hi Adam, the one you have is the latest one already, you are the first patch for the motors.

Hi Adam, the one your have is the first patch. When we do the upgrade for your motor, its the latest version by that time, and after the customer feedback and lots of discussion, we have introduced and upgrade the latest version lately.

However, the one you have is not applicable for those functions.

We now announcing another new version with the all new upgrade controller and motors for our products, all the shipping from today are our latest models.

I'm sorry but I'm seriously confused. I thought you said I have the latest motor with the upgrade I received a month ago. Are you now saying I need to upgrade hardware again to get the dual modes? Thanks so much. Adam

Adam, sorry for the confusion.
The one you have is a quick respond priority motor which was delivered last month.

And we had just release new generation yesterday.

The new generation wireless motor and follow focus controller are backward compatible to our previous product,
However, the old generation does not have the new commands for new functions.

Because the new generation require a new motor and new controller in order to use the new functions.
Thus, we do not provide upgrade service by this time.

Steven, Since day one I have been saying I want a MORE responsive motor, your system is great but the built in lag/dampening is a nightmare for the professional ACs I work with. They want the system to do exactly what they do and not second guess them by smoothing out there movements. I upgraded to this one because you said that it would be more responsive. In fact it seems to have even more lag/dampening than the first one I had. It's almost unusable in that regard.

Are you now saying I will need to sell my entire system and buy a new one? I am a bit shocked as I literally just got this "new" motor weeks ago as a upgrade and I find it hard to believe that you did not know at that time that another new motor was just around the corner that addressed my lag/dampening concerns. Kind Regards, Adam

Dear Cinegears customers,
during the last four months we have reviewed the feed back from the the users, Some users enjoy a very sensitivity controller and sharp respond motor, some enjoy the smooth respond motor and the controller. Thus, we have install both smooth respond and sharp respond feature into the our new generation follow focus units.

hi Adam,

I am sorry that you had bad experience with our product, based on some user request, I have made some adjustments of the firmware to improve motor respond speed 3 months ago, I have sent out the fast respond motors to some Clients to test, during my test, I found out some focus puller still like the smooth respond feature. I had receive your e-mail, you were very satisfied with this new upgrade.

Buy the way, are you this Adam Levins?

Yes Steven, that's me. We had a conversation at your booth about the dampening issue which im sorry to say I do not find at all improved in the new motor. What email I you referring to? I just looked through all my emails and do not see anything with me saying I think the issue has been improved. Thank you, Adam

Hi Steven,

How are you gonna rectify my wrong order and signal drop issues with your system.

I need a system that actually works.

My unit has been sitting on the shelve since Dec 2014.

To faciltate a speedy exchange I even sourced out a local dealer who was willing to help pending your approval.

This would save time and the cost of me shipping the unit back to you, as I feel I should not incur the cost of shipping it back as you guys sent me the wrong order to begin with.

Can I trade my wrong order for a new and improved motor and hand controller ?

Hi Dean,

The most disconnection between motors and controllers are generally caused by the following three reasons.

1. The disconnection is caused by the interference between the following focus modules andother electrical devices. If this is the case, please restart the motor and re-establish the connection between the motor and the controller. The motor and the controller will find a different channel to establish connection. The Cinegears follow focus units support up to 45 different channels.

2. The disconnection is caused by damaged equipment. (Broken antenna, damaged controller). To test if the disconnection is caused by broken antenna, please try to rotateantenna. If the antenna can be rotated 360 degree, this means soldering metal that join the antenna to the controller is broken. The users can choose reconnect the antenna to the controller by soldering or sent the damage equipment back to Cinegears for repair. Sent the damaged equipment back through RMA and we will repair or replace the equipment.

3. If the disconnection is caused by defects. Please test the equipment in an interference free area. Move the controller back and forth for 2 minesnext to the motor. If the motor lost connection from the controller, please sent the defected equipment back through RMA and we will replace the defected equipment.

Hi Steven,

There is no damage to the motor and hand controller.

Motor and hand controller will sync on start up.

Let it sit for a few mins to half an hour or during a take, signal will eventually drop out. Drop out occurs whilst am standing next to the camera (2 ft) or on a crane (7ft) away.

There is no reaction from the motor when I rotate the knob and sometimes there is a lag as if the motor and controller are trying to detect each other.

I have tried rebooting the system many times, following your videos and instructions on the back of the hand controller. Drop out still occurs.

Testing has been done on on set and at home. Always ends with the same results.

I would just like a new and complete system that actually works as advertised.

I will return you the whole system for a replacement when I get back on August 5th.

I'm renting out my follow focus, and the production contacted me to indicate that after pairing the motor with the controller, the light blinks, indicating a connection, however the motor is unresponsive. Any reason why this would happen? Tested the unit last night and it worked fine.

I haven done this dance a few times and faced the music at time of use :P

My kit is in Vancouver hopefully they will give me an answer soon.

I have way too many projects that require this.

Hi Eric,
The antenna of your controll is broken.we will send you a detailed report tomorrow.

Thats interesting considering that controller was supposed to be sent back due to the replacement updated one I received.

Why didnt I use it...well it was hard to use since I didnt receive the same amount of ring markers and each ring was already set-up to a specific lens.

The updated controller sat in the box and once all these issues started I figured Ill send it back with the original one.

Well its great to hear that the reason. Now if you can just replace the markers and send the working updated controller back then Im fine.

Will I receive the updated motor as well?

Thanks!

Steven,

This may shed some light. I was meant to send mine back about a month ago but then the disconnection problems I was having mysteriously went away. I did a job in a park, an abandoned school, on top of the Standard East in NYC and on top of the Standard on the west side of Manhattan. I was loving it until today. I was in a small studio in a large office building with numerous companies above, below and next to us. It would drop at least one out of three takes. It was nervous going when we had a take that involved the actor's dress getting soaked with champagne (one take or a very long re-set. Thank God we weren't blowing shit up).

So I'm wondering does interference happen from being in a more RF / Wifi heavy zone. Also, with the Ronin, the Paralinx and the Motor boot up at the same time. Should they be booted out of sequence?

Any more insights would be helpful or I'll be filling out that RMA form.

Thanks.
