Group Buy: Budget CRI 95 LED Strip Lights

Hello Brandon. Thanks for the news.

So this means for those who have an order for the controller will wait until you send the invoice for the shipping?

If you are in the Facebook group, take a look at what I posted yesterday.

Please keep posting pictures here as I don't want to use Facebook.

Thanks

Pat

I've been waiting for my order to be delivered. I'm not sure if the lights + controllers are ready for shipping at this state? (sorry I don't follow reduser forum often nor facebook page)

Hi Brandon,

Just seen a link to this group buy on CML.

Is it too late to get in on this group buy for 3-4 strips & a controller?

Thanks,

Hi branden is anything shipping yet? I ordered 2 lights and 2 controllers so long ago, I can't remember. Can't really go through 230 pages also.

Yes, there will stay the second half of next month.

I definitely will.

Jack, the lights and kits having been shipping on demand for quite a while while the controller has been developed. Everything will start shipping en masse next month. If you want your lights and kits now, before the controllers ship, I can get them out to you this week.

I will want two more controllers, when will payment need to be made? Funds are tight at the moment, but that is a temporary situation.

Email me Brian.

I sent you an email, Craig.

I understand. Check out my above reply to Jack, Jon.

Are these controllers still avail?

Yes, but not for long. PM me your email. All the details are in my previous post towards the end.

sent you a PM with an order and some questions, hoping you got it. thanks so much!

To save you guys from digging through 230 pages, here are some highlights:

Brandon. Used a strip yesterday for some jewlery/diamonds in glass cases. Basically strung the strip on top of the case and had an assistant put a slight movement into the strip. Sparkle city! These are great.

An interesting note, I just did a shot on this movie where I put full cto on my daylight panels I made out of these and they looked great. No weird color. It was on our leading lady for her close up. I wasn't expecting it to work, thats some good cri or color or voodoo or whatever you want to call it.

Just finished a job using the variable strips in china balls, Brolly Boxes and both gridded and direct octabanks. Wow. Lightest, brightest, simplest, most colour correct source I've ever used. When we threw a Cineo phosphor unit in the mix, you could actually see the green-yellow from it in the skin tone, in comparison to the Group Buy strips.

Brandon, thank you for all the hard work, the patience to see this through despite your health, and for dealing with the hundreds if not thousands of queries over the last year.

The strips, powered not even with your controller but direct from V-mounts, outperformed some incredibly expensive lighting, and added tremendous production value to a complex job, with tough creative direction and even worse environmental issues(like, minus 30 and the 800amp genny on the package won't start....).

I am sooooooo excited to get the controllers and start building more rigs. The crew, gaffer and DP thank you!

These have worked wonderfully. Will post pics soon.

I am loving mine. I want more. These puke out huge amounts of light when driven by around 15v from an AB battery. I am using 12v power supplies that I got from a different vendor, and I have 15v supplies for some of my other LEDs. Color temp is spot on without CC gells.

I put mine on coro-plast with velcro on the back. They are less than half an inch thick and mad bright.

A little project. LED "Kino" 4 Rows of Daylite and 4 rows of tungsten strips. each strip is 12"

The fixture is 16". My gel precuts are in Baby/Tweenie, 16" cuts, 24" Cuts, and Kino Precuts. So this fixture is able to use my 16" gel and diffusion pre-cuts without it looking too funny.

I made it so the strips are removable by velcro. Incase I want to tape it to a wall/ceiling. (The LEDs are as dimmed to about 5%)

I built this one to test run the prototype dimmer/controller tomorrow.

I built a little 4X wide by 6" long strip for extra punch for car scenes when it's really sunny out. I tested it using a small 2Amp 12V power supply. Worked fine, didn't heat up too much. Used V-Lock batteries, and they got extremely hot, so hot that the double sided tape I used started to melt. I built some "stix" using a flat profile rather than a typical semi circle profile(Because that's all I could find locally), and they can get pretty hot as well. But it only seems to get hot when there isn't enough air, or if they are too close together. so just keep that in mind when building fixtures. I noticed LiteGear products do the same. So when someone says LEDs don't put off heat, it's not true!

So now, the 4X wide by 6" light is now attached to a small piece of coroplast. that way there is some heat insulation between the strips and what ever I'm taping it to.

I now make sure if I'm powering it off of camera batteries, I dim it 20% or so.

I also built a small 7AH battery in a pelican case, using a motorcycle battery. I put 2.1MM barrel attachments on it, 4Pin XLR(so I could power my 1'X1' LED panel. the power wasn't stable. I noticed some dips and fluttering. not sure why, but now I leave it in our lighting truck to power up a bunch of cheap LED strips I bought for all of our shelving after we disconnect from genny power at the end of the night.

The other project that I did, not sure if I posted yet. Is the bigger Kino-like LED.

I made it like the smaller one, so that you can remove the section with the LEDs from the fixture(Shell) incase you need something extremely lightweight and compact. For now it's just on the by velcro, but I'm going to use rivets to hold the V-Mount plate into place. Even though the velcro holds. But I'm sure it's because the velcro is new.

Since I didn't want to have to make a 5-9 wire headcable. I made it so you can kill individual rows of 2. like a short 4 Kino by simply disconnecting sections.

This is hopefully a temp thing. But it works. I had a few baby plates laying around. Slapped some velcro on the plate and stuck it to the fixture. The Baby plate weighs almost as much as the whole fixture!

Here's the fixture taped to a window. We didn't have access to the neighbouring yard.

Here's some stuff in play.

Poor picture, but you can see how you can easily hide the wires in the trim/cracks of a vehicle.

Hootsuite Video. To get a little extra wrap/shape we just stuck some LEDs to the wall with 2 layers of diffusion.

Update: I'm not seeing flicker at 250fps (1/500th shutter) and I'm looking at 1:1 on a 60" TV. Scaled to HD, there's no visible flicker even at 500fps.

The original spec is 120fps flicker free. Looks like we are double that.

I am simulating the high frame rates by adjusting the shutter. I will test on every camera I can get my hands on. Visiting a local rental house for more tests this week...

For what it's worth, it's also flicker free at 120fps on my 1+ One (Android) phone. That's the highest it goes. I also shot a clip with my iPad at 240fps, and there's no flicker.

The way it looks now, officially, we'll probably call it 200+ FPS flicker free.

That work for you guys? :)

MAX LOAD CONTROLLER TEST

The 4' x 4' rig is done and looks amazing! 4 full rolls of daylight are on here.

I have bleached muslin on as diffusion and even still it's crazy bright!

Dz4CwEN.jpg

The controller is nice and cool! It's working great at a full 40A load.

The color temp is spot on and the CRI 98 rating is the best I've ever seen for daylight LEDs. And I'm not looking at just CRI, but also Extended CRI as well as specific skin tone color reproduction. It's beautiful.

I plan on making videos/blog posts explaining how we put together this rig and many others, so once you guys start receiving your lights and controllers you'll have some resources to look to for advice.

There's a lot more and there will be people posting some really cool stuff soon that can't be made public yet. I've seen some really beautiful results with these lights.

Looks amazing brandon. I can't wait to try these. When you get a spare minute, let me know how I can get in line to get some strips so I can test and build rigs before we shoot this sitcom pilot.... thanks again for your work, this is a game changer.

Great news that the controllers are done. Just one question, is the price still the same for those of us who already paid for the controllers a year ago? what about the power supplies we also paid for?

Everyone that already paid is all set. No change in price. Power supply orders are going with the controllers.

Hi Brandon

I know you must be rammed with enquiries, but still waiting on an answer to my email from the 15 March (0926 GMT)?

Thanks!
