  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: Budget CRI 95 LED Strip Lights

If you want to be added to the second group buy PM me your email address. We have close to 100 people on the list already. It's starting very soon!

So, I just received my fixed strips.

Bought some "tubes" to put them in, with integrated diffusion. Cut some 60 cm strips an put one into a tube.

And wow, I'm blown away by the brightness of this thing. Pretty impressive. Color seems to be great too.

I'll do more tests in the upcoming days, but first impression is very positive. Let's take the time to get the controllers right :)

Great to hear! I'm excited to see what you do with them!

Here's how it's going to look:

First quick test, with tubes.
Works great, and very compact setup. Lightweight too. Less than 1 pound for 6x 2 feet tubes.

Very nice, Nils!

Thanks.

There are a number of options out there for LED tubes made for home or industrial use. I will have a private (password protected) web shop up today or tomorrow for the second group buy and tubes will be available there too.

Don't forget to send links to the first Group Buy ;)

I found them at a local shop that sells led strips, there are many options available. I think it's a great solution to make compact, lightweight, modular and softer lights.
They are sold in 2m length and you cut them to the lengths you need. I also found wider tubes that would allow to fit 2 strips side by side, but unfortunately they were not available in stock.

Hope to get mine soon as I have the Makerbot ready to go to create some tool less rigging solutions.

It would be really great to be able to have connectors on the ends that can unhook as needed, male female type of thing,
Are there any out there like that?

Controller looks awesome Brandon. Looking forward to the second group buy. Really exciting!

Brandon,

Can you check my account and make sure everything is up to date.. Bottom line: I am not following this thread.. It's huge and I'm short on time right now.
If something is missing you should have my email.

I have been testing some "invisible" lighting to use with the IR OLPFs that are available. Custom LED strip lights that I had tuned for optimal use with Dragon. I have the KipperTie Full Spectrum Zero Lowpass OLPF and an infrared screw on filter.

It is the craziest thing to be in a dark room that is full of light you can only see with your camera. The only way to know the lights are on, without looking at the camera, is you can feel they are getting warm.

Here's a thread about the OLPF I'm using: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?127724-4-New-OLPF-s-for-Dragon!

You can get the OLPF here: http://kippertie.com/?product=full-spectrum-zero-lowpass-filter-for-dragon

I really have to thank John Marchant for dealing with all my questions when I was figuring out what to do with this custom lighting. Much appreciated, John!

If anyone wants some they will be available in the next group buy.

Very cool stuff!

Here's a macro shot from today's tests with the custom infrared light strips and the KipperTie OLPF.
