  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: Budget CRI 95 LED Strip Lights

I am all for you guys waiting, but how about shipping out the LEDs that people ordered without controllers? I can't be the only one who order simple LEDS and would love to get them sooner rather than later. If it can't be done, I understand, but it just seems kind of silly.

Cheers,

Nick

The problem is I'm out of the country working on a film. I plan to fly back to the US to get everything sent out as soon as it's ready. I can take a week off to do that, but 2 trips isn't really an option. In hindsight I wish I sent the LEDs out immediately, but the power supplies would still have had to wait on the controllers because they needed to be tested together to make sure there are no issues (there aren't). Ultimately I decided not to send the LEDs early because most people ordered variable strips and you can't really use them without a controller. I did email everyone with an early delivery option if they had fixed strips they wanted right away. The window closed on that when I flew out and I realize not everyone saw that email until it was too late.

The next Group Buy will be done with automated fulfillment and will go very quickly. There will also be a private webshop just for this Group Buy to make things easier. The good news is the controllers rock, people really love the lights, and we are almost done.

Waiting is fine for me.

Fixed a couple typos:

I have pictures!

(there will be a paint job added to this, so you'll need to use your imagination a little)

I made some design changes to beef this up for production use.

Gone is the exposed printed circuit board:

(the antennas can be unscrewed)

The terminals are now recessed and protected. Check this out:

No more Dip Switches either. They are all gone.

There is one problem though:

I hate the position of the switches. The PCB was done by engineer who apparently gave no thought to the position of the switches.

They can fix it. It will take, "...probably 1 week. 2 at most."

Should we wait?

At this point, my vote is to wait to get it fixed. Everything else is great about this unit. I know I have screwed up our schedule trying to get this perfect, but I know you guys are going to love these. There is nothing else on the market like this at any price.

Let me know your thoughts! We are 99% there!

Waiting would delay to mid-May or later?

Mid-to-late May.

Thanks again Brandon for this R&D LED Groupbuy/custom controller product launch lol

Happy to do it. All the product design is great fun. I really enjoy it. The logistics side is the exhausting part :)

At this point, what's another 2 weeks to get it right? I say fix it.

Waiting is fine for me.

Just curious but are the two different antennas on purpose? Also will there be knobs? Also will this controller be able to be integrated into a software like luminare? Dmx compatible? The only thing also that would be amazing is rubber end caps like the lite gear controllers have. But if not Sugru will do the trick easily. Could we get a picture of the power side?

There are 2 different antennas to show the options. They will ultimately be identical. Of course there will be knobs, graphics/labels, etc. :)

No luminare or DMX support. At this price point that's not possible. There will be an iOS app though and remote hardware accessories. Lots of cool stuff is coming.

Rubber end caps are out of our budget.

You are looking at the power side. All the terminals are on one side. Everything will be labeled.

I'm for waiting and doing it right.

I have one hell of a shoot mid-May but I guess we will do without those LEDs as you're right it's better to wait and do it right.

I can wait, but what's wrong with the current switches position? They seem functional enough?

It looks really ugly and once knobs are on there it's going to look even worse and present functional issues as well. I don't really want to deal with hitting switches while turning the knobs to adjust color and brightness.

FYI I ordered this group buy, and paid for the lights. Never got them.

If you scroll up a few posts you will see the most recent updates. I've been keeping this thread updated semi-daily all throughout. I also emailed everyone a couple months ago about early delivery if they didn't want to wait for controllers to be finished. If you had replied, you would have your roll of lights already. Everything will be shipped out once the controllers are done in a couple weeks.

I have no problem waiting....

These engineers will have to speed it up a bit with their revisions...I work with some structural engineers that can give me drawings in under a week for extremely complex mechanisms that hold men and equipment hundreds of feet in the air.

I agree though the delay was from the new molds that needed to be made. It's quite expensive and takes time. The PCB and software updates took were pretty fast.
