  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: Budget CRI 95 LED Strip Lights

No email yet for me - but I'm bogged down in another CGI project (yuk!), so no time to test or shoot anything.... so no rush on that, I can be last on the list ;)

Just wondered what the situation is regarding not only controller upgrades, but tubes, china balls et all?

Hi Brandon - count me in for Round 2 please. Not sure on whether I'll go for variable or fixed yet but I'll make up my mind once those cool surprises are announced!

Thanks,
Joe Murphy

Thanks again for all the incredible work so far. Greatly appreciated. Count me in for the next round.

Brandon-

(I can't remember) are the connectors for the fixed strips custom or is there somewhere else I can get a few more kits? I'm assuming your still out of the country & can't send me a few more at the moment)

We are testing the controller prototypes while the manufacturer is on holiday (2 weeks for the Chinese New Year). There should be some independent feedback on the controllers posted soon. They are looking great! I'll have everyone processed for the upgrades soon. Our production run will take 2.5 weeks once everything is finalized and paid. I'll have news on the tubes this coming week. The china balls are a ways off still. There are a few more things that need to be built first.

You're on the list, Joe.

Just PAID the updated invoice for the new controllers ! :) Thanks again Brandon for making this group buy happens. We all owe you one !

Happy to help make all this happen! Thanks John.

Thanks John. I'll add you to the list too!

The fixed strip connectors are not proprietary, but I can't guarantee something you get somewhere else will work. I will see if there are any extras I can get you. The variable connectors are proprietary. They were made specifically for us and are not available anywhere else. For the second round I'll see if we can put together large quantity packs of each type of the fixed and variable connectors since they are in such high demand.

I have a shoot tomorrow out in a village in Latvia. Once I get back I'll get to work on getting everyone processed for the controller upgrades. It will be done soon.

A little project. LED "Kino" 4 Rows of Daylite and 4 rows of tungsten strips. each strip is 12"

The fixture is 16". My gel precuts are in Baby/Tweenie, 16" cuts, 24" Cuts, and Kino Precuts. So this fixture is able to use my 16" gel and diffusion pre-cuts without it looking too funny.

I made it so the strips are removable by velcro. Incase I want to tape it to a wall/ceiling. (The LEDs are as dimmed to about 5%)

I built this one to test run the prototype dimmer/controller tomorrow.

Memory wire to hold the shape of the barndoors. pretty much exactly like a Kinoflo. So if I want to bend the doors wide open, they will stay open. If I want to pinch it closed it will stay which ever way I want it. the coroplast is strong enough on it's own. Also very lightweight.

Oh, your saying the entire fixture is made of Coroplast, memory wire & Suretape..?

Yeah, but the LED are just on a chunk of coroplast. The LEDs come with 3M Tape(Double sided tape) so I just stuck the strips to a piece of coroplast. on the backside is some velcro so I can stick it into the fixture. and I can pull the LEDs out if I need to stick it somewhere tight.

Hi Brandon, I responded to your last round of emails where you aske about the option to switch the controllers and I posed some questions. You're probably flooded with mails, so it doesn't bother me that I've haven't heard from you yet. Just wanting to make sure it doesn't get lost :)

Thanks a ton!

It's pretty much all Coroplast. A little bit of memory wire I found at a local arts and crafts store. and some 2" Suretape.

Thanks for posting this Corey.

Can you post a link to the exact "Memory Wire" you're using? I cannot find thick "Memory Wire" at say DickBlick.com,
so I was wondering if you are using Aluminum Wire or something else?

It was a small local store here in town that I found this at. I bought it a few weeks for this purpose. If I ever drive in that part of town I'll try to grab the name of the store, but I don't think it'll have a website.
