  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: Budget CRI 95 LED Strip Lights

I emailed a list of 33 modifications / additions for our "red pill" controller based on your feedback and a few new ideas I have had. We are a go on all fronts. I'll have the numbers for the 8A and 10A version by tomorrow. Then we have to decide which one we will go with ASAP.

I only want 1 version of this controller. It will either be 8A or 10A, it will have full wireless capabilities, and it will be universal. It will work with both single color and variable strips and you can use any standard strip you want. It will be optimized for the strips in our group buy, but you are not locked in to a specific brand like others do.

This controller is seriously going to rock!

And in other news...

Batch 2 starts February 1st.

I've been absolutely bombarded with messages from people asking about a second group buy for another batch of LED strips. We are a go starting February 1st. I'm keeping a preliminary offline list right now. PM me your email if you want on.

Reminder: Our first batch LEDs is on target to ship the end of the first week of February.

Last of all:
Details about the tubes will go out with the controller details.

That's awesome. I know that the picture you posted is just to show the proposed design, and it does look great. My question is, it seems to have 2 channels(Variable) and has the potential of having 4 channels of white LED.(Ch1,ch2,ch3,ch4) Which is great, I'm just wondering how you would go about switching channels when you have more then 1 fixture on the dimmer? Or does it dim everything together? Either way, it's still a good looking dimmer, and I'll end up buying multiples when things start getting finalized.

Keep up the work!

It's going to dim everything. Being able to independently control each channel would require a total redesign of the controller and wireless protocol. It's all designed to use one controller per fixture.

Sounds good. I think if the whole strip is 8amps, then I think 8 Amps per channel is more than enough, but if it's 10amps, may as well go 10Amps. Just so you could run the whole strip if needed. You could make some pretty hefty fixtures with 20 meters of LED on 1 single controller.

Yeah, that would be ~40,000 lumens with these strips.

There are a lot of people in this group buy that are planning monster fixtures, so I think the 10A is the way to go. The manufacturer said 8A will work, but 10A would be ideal. Hopefully the cost isn't too much more.

Hey Brandon. I was re-reading the PDF you sent us that describes the original power supplies. The DYI is rated at 12A and the Desktop one is rated at 10A. So with these new controllers, are these two obsolete now? If I understand correctly, to use the new controller at its maximum potential would require a power source of either 32A or 40A (@ 8A or 10A per channel). Is this correct or I am completely misunderstanding everything?

They aren't obsolete at all. They will work for most people in most situations. If you want to build a monster fixture you'll need more power though. That's always been the case. I'll be testing various (extremely) high power options as soon as they get the first controller to me to sign off on.

Brandon.
I thought you were emailing a document with alternatives (tubes and balls also), after discovering the original controllers weren't flicker-free.
My bad, I don't speak english very well and for a week or two I couldn't read a lot here.
Anyway I want them to be flicker free. Is that a red pill?
Can you send me this document?

I'm putting a document together with all the details and the different options. If we get enough 'red pill' responses it goes out tomorrow with upgrade invoices.

Thanks
Alvise

Hello from Kurdistan ! Red pills for me please, new controller mockup looks great.

Can you send me this document?

The document about the new controller (red pill upgrade) will be sent as soon as the technical specification is locked and I have the final pricing from the manufacturer. 24-48 hours from now. It will include all the details about the tubes too. The China balls will be later.

Great.

The manufacturer doesn't have a quote for me yet because they are waiting for a quote on the Phoenix Connectors we want added. They have always just used terminals. They did send an updated mock-up, but I'm going to hold off on posting it until they fix a couple cosmetic issues. I just sent them a list of 12 things to fix/change. Most are cosmetic. My years of previous experience working with programmers on web applications (my concepts, their code.) and optimizing user experience is really paying off right now.

I should have the price later tonight and, for those that asked, I don't know the exact dimensions yet, because making it 10A will probably increase the size a bit, but the weight will be under 1 pound (0.45kg).
