  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: Budget CRI 95 LED Strip Lights

What Nick said.

I built a little 4X wide by 6" long strip for extra punch for car scenes when it's really sunny out. I tested it using a small 2Amp 12V power supply. Worked fine, didn't heat up too much. Used V-Lock batteries, and they got extremely hot, so hot that the double sided tape I used started to melt. I built some "stix" using a flat profile rather than a typical semi circle profile(Because that's all I could find locally), and they can get pretty hot as well. But it only seems to get hot when there isn't enough air, or if they are too close together. so just keep that in mind when building fixtures. I noticed LiteGear products do the same. So when someone says LEDs don't put off heat, it's not true!

So now, the 4X wide by 6" light is now attached to a small piece of coroplast. that way there is some heat insulation between the strips and what ever I'm taping it to.

I now make sure if I'm powering it off of camera batteries, I dim it 20% or so.

I also built a small 7AH battery in a pelican case, using a motorcycle battery. I put 2.1MM barrel attachments on it, 4Pin XLR(so I could power my 1'X1' LED panel. the power wasn't stable. I noticed some dips and fluttering. not sure why, but now I leave it in our lighting truck to power up a bunch of cheap LED strips I bought for all of our shelving after we disconnect from genny power at the end of the night.

I believe at 10A it would be 120W as the strips are 12V
V*A=W
What's your point? The strips are 12V, what's going to change is the amperage which will be determined by the amount (meters/ft) of strips your running. I do know Ohm's law and my math was pretty good last I checked.
His point is that yout wrote 12W instead of 120W, so he corrected that.

12watt 10A power supply per 5 meter/16ft roll

Hi Brandon

I am about to move back to Mexico to start production on a feature. I emailed you a question regarding shipping. Thanks!

I saw your email. You didn't have to send me 3 messages ;)

Once the lights get to the fulfillment company I can send them out to anyone that wants them early (before controllers). Again, the fulfillment company is only for US orders right now...

I will clear out my PMs and emails tomorrow. I've been buried in dealing inventory (well over 2,000 items).

Quick update:

So, I have a finished controller sample in my hands. One small problem though... It looks like DHL backed a truck over the box and, as a result, the manual controls are smashed into the unit and don't work. Another unit is being rushed to me and I will have it on Friday.

Amazingly, the smashed unit still works (!), and I was able to test WiFi and RF control and I am very pleased. It's rock solid! Flicker free smooth fades...

(The unit itself was not smashed. The knob "sticks", or whatever they are called, were only smashed in because there are no plastic knobs on the unit yet since it's a sample. Well, and because the box was run over by DHL. Literally.)

I do have them making one change to the wireless controls, but that is not complicated. The manual controls, which I can test Friday, go from 0 to 100%, while the wireless controls go from 1 to 100% and the lights never actually turn off. That won't work for our needs, so I have them modifying the software to make it go from 0 to 100% when using wireless remotes (WiFi or RF).

A lot of care has gone into making our controllers as close to perfect as possible. And all for about half what an LCD/EVF monitor cable costs us. You guys are going to love these!

I will test the controller hard this weekend. I don't see any reason that it won't be ready to sign off on come Monday. Then our production run begins.

I will make a controller demo/setup video for you guys once these are ready to ship.

Thumbs up!

Thanks for the update Brandon.

I think you should post a "not to optimistic plan" for getting your existing US and worldwide customers the products.

Not optimistic would be late June, but I really don't see things taking that long. The lights are on the way to the warehouse as we speak. Once they arrive (a couple days) and are processed (a couple more days), they will be ready to ship. Even though we need to find buyers for more controllers still, I will front the money for the difference to make sure there are no delays. I will have the final sample controller tomorrow (checked tracking), will test it hard all weekend, and send the final notes, if any, to the manufacturer on Monday. The minor software changes I asked for the other day regarding the wireless dimming are already done. Everything is pointing towards me signing off on this on Monday. The manufacturer says they can get everything made in 2.5 weeks and it will take a couple days to arrive. I still haven't caught up on PMs or emails yet. I've been buried in dealing with the logistics of getting everything figured out with the fulfillment warehouse. After a couple long webinars and several support calls, that's all sorted now. We are close. In fact some orders will start going out Monday to a couple people I've already talked to in the EU/US (but without controllers).

I am excited about these lights and hope to see them soon :)

It's here!

Looks and works great! I'm going to test it a lot more this weekend, but very pleased!

Note: This unit has temporary laser printing. The final units will be silk screened and the text will be white. There will also, obviously, be knobs on the final units.

Nice!

Are you not getting my emails?

Are you not getting my emails?

Just wondering why i havent received any response to my messages yet.
