  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: Budget CRI 95 LED Strip Lights

A few years ago I bought a 5m spool for 25 euros and I have soldered the damn thing for two hours to build a softbox... It wasn't CRI 95 for sure haha. http://img.gjprod.com/galleries/Leds/IMG_20121217_220027.jpg

I know there will be a second round - I just read the whole thread - but I put this somewhere : I will go for two daylight spools and two controlers. Thanks!

I'm in...thank you.

Prototype just arrived...

~11,000 lumens, tungsten, and CRI 98. Beautiful light!

Waiting on an ETA from the manufacturer for the next prototype. It's close. Still waiting on a few people to pay too.

What about leaving behind those who didn't pay. I mean, are we passionate people or uncivilized ones?
Will you send an email to everyone on the first group when a second group (more spools, new E27 fixture, new accessories) will happen, or I do have to read every page here?
Thanks again

I've been on a shoot in Latvian village. Got back at 3am last night. Today and tomorrow I'll be dropping people that haven't paid yet. I should have an update on the controller today or tomorrow. I was using the previous prototype all weekend and it worked great. Actually, for this entire shoot all I used was the lights in our group buy. Considering we were in a hundred year old house which would probably catch fire if we plugged in a "hot light" I'm not sure what I would have done without these LEDs. Everyone in the crew was talking about how great they were. I will post some set pics later today and I will get caught up on your emails today and tomorrow.

I've gotten used to the ones i've build from the rolls I've got so I can relate, they make using my old lights seem primate, that's why I just need more!! When will the rolls that haven't been paid for be accessible? I want to finish off a complete day-light set. Can't wait to see the BTS pics.

I'm glad you like them. These LEDs have really changed how I light now too. There were a couple rooms we shot in with no electrity at all and way too small to fit even a light stand. We just taped tubes up on the wall (or sometimes ceiling), threw on a D-tap connector/camera battery, I set the color temp and brightness to whatever I wanted, and we were all set. It's really a great way to work on location and the results look fantastic.

Brilliant...thanks for moving things forward despite the no pays. Given the popularity of this GB I'm sure there will be a round 2 and wouldn't be surprised if we needed more supplies as well.

Thanks again,

Hey LED Fans. I bought into this group buy to use the strips on a feature that just got canceled. I'd be willing to exchange my place with someone interested in my following package:

13x Variable Strip Spools
5x Desktop AC adaptors
6x Upgraded Dimmers
13x Power Kits
22x Variable connector kits

I would be open to having someone take over the entire buy from me. Possibly half of it also. Would love to give it away at the going rate so I don't lose money on it.

If you're interested PM me or email at awonder@gmail.com

My only real issue now besides not having enough is diffusion for some of the smaller ones I have. I have customized some solutions to fit them nicely in a few Chimeras but besides putting them in tubes i'm trying to figure out a clean way to diffuse.

Here are a few quick shots from yesterday's shoot...

Here's the location for one of the setups:

I wanted to use the sun as the key light, but I needed something to light up the areas on the side of the window a bit, but still make it look like it was from the window. Here's what I did:

Double tube taped to the ceiling with 2m of variable strips all connected to one of our custom group buy controllers. I dialed in the exact color temp and brightness I needed and we were all set in like 5 minutes. It looked fantastic!

Here's a shot from that scene:

Looks great. Can't wait to get mine. It would be great to get a new thread going where people could post pics of their different solutions for rigging the strips. Like what kind of tubes used Etc.

When all the orders go out we can do that, definitely. There will be tubes and various other accessories in the next group buy we do which will start as soon as this one is locked down and the controller is locked down and in production (soon).

I'll post more pictures tomorrow.

Hi Brandon. thanks for the BTS! Looking sweet - nothing fishy about it (no pun intended) ;)

I sent you a quick mail. Just making sure it doesn't get lost because you're so busy. Cheers!

Here's another example from what I shot over the weekend.

We had this tiny bathroom the actor was standing in and we were filming through the doorway to the bathroom. There was a small practical light bulb in the bathroom.

For the key light I taped a double tube over the mirror and tuned the color temp to match the practical that was in the room:

The outside wall framed the shot on the left and right sides of the bathroom doorway. There were no electrical outlets in that room at all so we taped a 1 foot tungsten tube to the opposite wall and ran it off a v-mount with the d-tap connection on the battery itself (no battery plate). You can see the battery on the table.

Again, the whole lighting setup took 5 minutes and it looked fantastic.

Again, thanks for posting and setting up the group but. I'm doing a few short films after Easter and these lights will be perfect.
Do you use the Seconic to dial in the temprature?
