Okay guys. . .

. . . what on earth happened here?

Fifteen minutes ago, I could happily click on any of my proxy files and my Quick Time would happily play them back for me.

Then, in going over some old files, I found a few reels that had nothing but what I call "the green screen of death." The files are there, they just won't play. Since these files blew up on both REDAlert and REDCine, I figured that perhaps those programs just needed to be updated. So I went on to RED.com and downloaded the latest versions of these programs. They still wouldn't play these old files for some reason.

So, I assumed that perhaps I needed to upload the latest QuickTime plug from RED. This I did. Now guess what? I can't click on my proxies and play them AT ALL! ALL I get with a click on the proxies is the green screen of death. . . this despite the fact that they played just find not 15 minutes ago.

I really want my click-and-play (in QuickTime) back. What did I do and what do I need to do to fix this?

Hi,
The green screen issues usually comes from the graphics card.
Some of your updates triggered a bug...
Try opening a new user to try and narrow down the problem.
If this problem persists in the new user, then you probably have the bug in your system.
Other than re-install the system, you can re-install Quicktime / RED software, or try update system to 10.5.7.
Do you have a new Nehalem? then 10.5.7 might do the trick if you have the new ATI Radeon 4750 installed [update packs the new drivers].
Although seeing the green bug quite a few times before, i never had your specific issue. This is just a bit of mac logic... results may vary...
Hope it goes well for you.

I tell you what, I don't know what the issue is. It's totally, or almost totally, unpredictable.

Get this:

1. Open files (using QT) stored on native hard drive. Fine. Most of the time..

2. Try to open files located on external hard drive. Nothing. Green screen of death.

3. Go back to files on native hard drive. Try to open them. NOW YOU GET THE GREEN SCREEN OF DEATH! How weird is that?

As it happens, I was able to get what I needed, but only after many machinations. Crazy.

Unfortunately, it's not that simple. I had the same problem with green screen. If you read the original post again, you will see, that the problem constitutes itself with random proxy files, that were working fine just a few minutes before problem appears. Once it appears, I hadn't found a way to fix it. The file appears fine, as I can open it in QT even after appearance of green screen. On top of that, I can do the render of the timeline with problem file and the problem file renders fine. It appears, that FCP randomly just stops recognizing the file in the timeline...

Weird indeed.
Weird, but many had the same issues...I remember these random green screens you are talking about. Restarts sometimes work, but you cannot use that as a troubleshooting method if it happens all the time...
It happened to me with older builds.
How about some RED advise ? what do you guys think of these green screens? What has been your experience with this random issue ?
