  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Got 6K ? ( link to my LA vista shoot test )

Cool...care to share anything about what you're cooking up?? Is this part of your no OLPF testing?

No OLPF is key.
My goal is to surpass Monochrome Epic in resolution. Am I getting close ?

((( Rant: It sure would be easier to tell if people could actually post single frames from the fricking thing !! ))))
((( It must be that folks are still using 56K modems... shrug ... )))

I remember years ago, I exported a video to a sequence of frames, and I batch processed them with Lanczos resize. That stuff is fantastic. I got similar results. Is that what you are using?

Alright with all the mystery. What's the process?

If the OLPF is gone, how does motion look? I would love to see video at speed

Motion looks good, but that LA vista shot strobes during the pan, because there is no motion blur. I'll find a locked off shot to post, with something moving in frame.
As many of you know, as soon as you have motion, you either loose the resolution due to motion blur on the moving elements, or you have strobing 'Saving Private Ryan' look.
But if you are shooting for the primary goal of achieving 4K , say to show off a 4K TV set, you set things up to minimize these detractors, having much of the frame sharp.
These things are good topics of conversation here, I would think.

I am going to keep guessing until you tell us. You said in your first post that is a "special post processing method" after shooting 4K right?, so it has to do with some kind of software manipulation, maybe " Genuine Fractals" plug in??, maybe??

Les...noticed this....is the tall building (towards the top right against the sky) really tweaked towards the top like that?

The one with the Coke sign, it is like that.
All I can say about the process is that it is not a fancy resizer. That's all I can say.
The technique is attractive to cameras that ship with aliasing issues. Lets say a few million DSLR's and some new stuff from down under.

Did I out resolve a mono epic ? That's what I want to know.

My guess is super resolution... but then regular framerates would not really work, but for still frames it would do the trick, Had a spark in flame a while back that even did great super resolutions from the DV cam that I had back then.

Les, don't get me wrong, I think the grab looks great. But I don't see how it can be called 6K, other than that it's 6,144 pixels across?

I say this b/c I can't see any significant detail that is one pixel in dimension. For example, when I look at the writing on the billboards and signs, e.g. "24 Hr Fitness," the smaller letters are blurred even though they are significantly larger than one pixel.

I do believe, FWIW, that you're on to something.

I'd venture a guess and say Photoshop Image Size.
