Hi,

I was looking for the RED matte box because of its light weight, but it can't fit to a 80mm diameter lense.

The smallest diameter it can accomodate is 110mm!!!

What good, affordable and light weight matte box (4X5.6) would you suggest to me ?

Thanks

Antoine

The Arri MMB-1 will step down to 80mm.

However, I would be surprised if the Red matte box did not do so as well.

I just got my RED matte box... before that I would rent an ARRI LMB5 and loved it! I honestly preferred that one over more expensive studio matte boxes and would get it even when I didn't have to be compact/lightweight.

isn't the LMB-5 much lighter than the Red Pro Mattbox?

It is quite a bit lighter than the Red Pro Matte box and it has an optional stage for a circular pola which the Red Pro Matte box doesn't have. The problem is it doesn't get big enough for some of the larger diameter lenses (Red Pro 18-85 for example) so it was no longer an option for me. I believe 110mm is the max for LMB5.

Hold out, something cool is in the works:)

Just saw that photo on Band Pro website.

...the RED matte box with a Leica 95mm diameter.

Wasn't the RED matte box 110mm minimum diameter ?

OK, but how do they fit a 95mm (the Leica) diameter lense on a 110mm RED matte box ?

Antoine

Use a Chrosziel 110-85 Clamp adapter ring. Works fine.

Hi Antoine

First of all, I will have to admit to shameless bias :-)

... but the OConnor O-Box fits 80mm no problem -- clamp-on or rods, studio or LWS. Below with a Zeiss T2.1, stock 80mm front.

Just a follow-up. The largest backplate for the ARRI LMB-5/15 seems to be K2.65223.0 which accepts a 143 mm front.
