Good fake whisky recipe? What works?

Hi all. . .

I'm needing to fake some whisky in a decanter to be poured up tight in a shot. I don't want my actors getting crocked on the real stuff. Anyone have any idea what works well on film?

Yes, tea is what you need. Grape juice is another option, but then you can not determine the density.

I've had good results with iced tea. For scotch I might use apple juice.

or just get caramel coloring. dirty little secret of the whiskey industry is that many whiskeys would actually be very clear if they didnt dump caramel coloring into it to make people think it's older than it is.

Ice tea, really well filtered for residues, or apple juice is the easiest and best. I wouldn't really bother with "recipes"... Apple juice is pretty cool!

But at least the talent will get to wince a little when drinking it, adds to the authenticity!!

I have had to do this a few times, with breakable glass too.

I found that diluted coffee works well for Bourbon's and heavy coloured drinks, and tea works better for single malts.

Apple juice does work well (in fact word is that Dean Martin used to drink apple juice on stage to keep up his public persona) but not when being decanted.

Do like the caramel idea though...

Iced Tea is what I've used to excellent effect - filtered through a coffee filter and diluted to visual taste.
