He loves him some yellow green that's for sure.
Fincher and Cronenweth more or less explore mood and scene based palettes both in lighting and in post. More so than what many expect from films.
I'm actually into this look as it's a more graphic effect and painterly.
They are making dramas and mysteries. They aren't making sitcoms. It's good that there's flavor in there. Also there's a couple other shots in that teaser (Rosamund at the 00:04 mark) that show different looks, scenes, and likely different intent.
I know some are critical of this look and approach, but they'll all be studying it in film school 10 years from now
These last three films (Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Gone Girl) are well in stride with the tone these guys have been after for a while. Fincher has hit it in a couple of other films too along the way. Fight Club, Zodiac, and Seven come to mind with heavy directed palettes.
That film is beautiful and full of muted color while not having a complete tint to the image like Gone Girl. Zodiac is closer to his more recent films in overall palette.
Hope that's just the color for the trailer.
Trailers/Teases don't always share same color treatment as film itself, so you are right...not sure how much we can gleam from this promo...
I agree Seven is a gorgeous film, of course different DP. But some of it is along these lines too:

Exactly. Just saw Ian Vertovec do a demo at Quantels booth at NAB and he was discussing the different color treatment for trailers versus the actual film. It made a lot of sense because a trailer is out of context so footage needs to be similarly colored to not be so jarring between shots. Was great to see him work and talk about his process.
Colors are about storytelling... Not right or wrong...
true, but we also don't have to like it![]()

WRONG!!! If the stop light bulbs are switched then the story is wrong and people die
