  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Global media pro batteries for scarlet

Anyone using the Global Media charger. How loud is your fan while charging and how long is the fan on for? Mine is like a really loud laptop (or scarlet) and runs for most of the charging time. Is that normal? GMP offered to replace it but I don't know if the replacement will be any different.

It's normal. Mine does the same.
 
The charger is loud for me too.

Do the red lights ever go out? Seems like it was charging for a long time but the lights stayed on.
 
what charger do you guys have the two or four? I will double check mine when I get home but I thought I remember it being silent, even when charging 3 batteries, mine is the four charger.

Yeah, that's what it did for me too. Worried me at first, but everything seems fine.
 
it is normal, i have a few different ones, IDX, global media pro and some Chinese ones, they all have fans going when charging, and if you think that's loud you should hear my Energizer AA batteries fast chatger, that thing is loud like a vacum cleaner :)
 
Recieved my batteries and chargers today! Did also receive three boxes research lab rat tissue samples, I kid you not. Global Media Pro was not to blame, DHL shipping was. I haven't been able to try out the batteries because no vmount plate for the scarlet. GMP is all good, DHL sucks, Reading CHEMICALS INCLOSED on a box with my name on it scared the shit out of me.

Good to know! By the way, I posted a review of the charger on the Global Media Pro: "Charger works... it's just really loud!" and GMP emailed me to ensure that I was only charging GMP batteries and that it wasn't getting hot. They offered to mail me a new one and to accept the old one to let their engineers make sure it was OK.

So GMP's customer service in that scenario was fantastic. Not needed, but had there actually been a problem I would have been really impressed. ;)
 
Yeah, I checked to see if there was an issue with heat when the fans turned on the first time for me. There didn't seem to be.

I agree that GMP's customer service is very good.
 
Anyone else had any fails yet?

Unfortunately just today, my charger as well as one of my 160's have failed and need to be sent back to China. I'm not taking this as a reason to freak out as some do when something fails. Shit happens with gear unfortunately. I'm actually going to grab a second charger for back up and two more 160's off GMP immediately. GMP responded immediately and reasonably (if you don't count paying air mail to china *grumble*) honouring their 12 months guarantee. Mind you if my second set fails, that will be another story...
But I think I was just unlucky, as I have not read of anyone else having an issue with the GMP combo yet.

* My charger never made any noise... Maybe that was the issue and then it cooked itself.

Quick update. Few more communications with GMP as they wanted to confirm I wasn't running anything that may have been causing spikes,
and have offered a 1 channel charger shipped to me immediately, at no cost, to use with my remaining battery and the other spares I am ordering.
That's fantastic customer service and service recovery.

That's nice to hear Lliam. I haven't had an issue with mine at all and have been running Scarlet and power off DTap nearly daily since I've had the camera. Sounds like you gut the ugly duckling out of a batch :(
