Okay, so the quest has begun for a contax zeiss super speed set. However, as I was looking through the prices to budget out what I'd need, I noticed the 21mm f/2.8 is around $2k and 35mm f/1.4 $1500 at various vendors. It made me start thinking, why not have the sigma to replace the 21mm and 35mm focal lengths in the Contax set? I don't own the sigma yet but from the footage I've seen, it looks great. I would get the GL Optics version w/ the interchangeable mount so I could use it with both PL or EF lens sets depending on the shoot, and I'd gain more light over the 21mm. Either option would end up around the same price.

Thoughts on this?

Personally, I'd get the 35 1.4 and the Sigma to start. An opening set of CONTAX 35 1.4, 50 1.4 and 85 1.4 paired with the Sigma Super Speed Zoom would be a nice opening kit. You can always the 21 later if you really want it...

Arthur, the GL Optics 18-35 is a great choice. It's sharp and fast, I highly recommend it. The lens doesn't cover 6K Dragon sensor.

Thanks Nick, helpful to hear coming from the Guru of Contax Zeiss

Thanks for the feedback! I've also seen tests and know it doesn't cover 6K, but I'm a lowly Scarlet user so it won't affect me anytime soon

That's actually not entirely true. Surprisingly, it DOES cover 6K Dragon for most the focal ranges. Starts to vignette at about 21mm I believe.

Yes - I saw this lens test showing the 6K vignetting until around 20/21mm but working for the rest of the zoom range. Though I think this is what Roger might have meant.
