  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Give Red a damn break...

Why the worry? Has RED ever given you any reason to believe we leave our customers behind? Will the RED ONE stop working when we release EPIC? We have given the RED ONE owners three choices. Upgrade to EPIC and trade in your RED ONE for FULL credit. Upgrade your sensor as we go along. Or do nothing and shoot your camera that is the same as those being used to shoot feature films. I'm not exactly sure what everyone is worried about. I know of no other company that has EVER cared about their customers previous purchases. Maybe you can help me here.

Hi Jim,

Quick question. How long is this upgrade path open for? Lets say for example, for the next 5 years I cannot afford an upgrade to Epic and keep using the Red One. Are you still saying after that time I can still trade my Red in for full credit, or are you saying at Epic launch I have to make my mind up then?

Thanks

Karl

At some point the DSLR group will be competition. Not today or tomorrow. I have to smile at the posts here about them. For those of you that think they can shoot a movie, tv show, commercial or music video... please do.

Jim

Genius man...1000% agreed.

Some things happen in technology that are predictable. We tend for example to double the speed or capacity of computers every 18 months.

But Red's main advantage has nothing really to do with these predictable advances. There advantage is about smart choices that affect the finished image quality. It's one thing to record an image off of a large, low noise sensor and deliver it as HD. It's another thing to encode that image and deliver something close to the raw image from a manageable compressed file. That's the part that isn't being addressed by any other company in the market, and they aren't even making noise about it.

Arri for example, told me they will "never compress images". So by the time 2K uncompressed is truly practical, Red will be delivering 8K compressed that looks phenomenal. That's a choice Arri is making, a misunderstanding that they have. Don't even get me started on Panavision.

I hope my main point is coming across. Chicken Little is on the loose on the forum. He's misinformed again.
