  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Getting a 1030 HDS

We'll look into this and I'll post something soon. I don't know the turn around times on the gear. Manufacturers try not to stock large inventories of equipment.

It sounds like people are mostly interested in O'Connor 1030 HDS and the O'Connor 2060. We can also look into deals with other manufacturers.

I would also like to point out the Panther T28 and T45. These are great heads and I know that we could set up a nice group deal for you.

Hi Osler

I haven't tried the Miller range of Tripods but we're planning on going to NAB this year so I'll check them out there.

Although more expensive O'Connor and Sachtler are attractive in terms future re-sale values.

Hey Scott,

I think you're right, and probably commands higher rates if you wanted to rent them out as well.

In case anyone wants to know, the official specs for the O'Connor 2060 are as follows (and yes, definitely not easy to carry around if you are always solo):

Height 7.6 in. or 19.3 cm
Width 11.3 in. or 28.7 cm
Depth 7.5 in. or 19.1 cm
Weight 16 lb. or 7.3 kg

That is pretty heavy if you're coming from a DV type background.

The O'Connor 1030HDS in comparison:

Height 6.6 in. or 16.8 cm
Width 7.6 in. or 19.3 cm
Depth 4.6 in. or 11.7 cm
Weight 8.2 lb. or 3.7 kg

Essentially, the 2060 is twice the weight of the 1030HDS.

Panther heads are sweet. Roughly what kind of price is a person looking at for them?

Ears perking up....

I too am very interested and am in the market now. I seem to remember during the "Frankie/Proto x" days that the Red team was rocking the Panther Heads. The guys seemed to really like and said so. Now I wonder what precipitated the change? Would love to hear from Jarred, Brian, Deanan or anyone else who was using them then.

I have been thinking of getting my old O'Con 50 rebuilt and getting a set of Ronford Standard Legs and a set of Baby legs as well for my "heavier (for me-- no moster Optimo Zooms) set up. Has anyone here gone that route yet and used on their Red?

I look forward to hearing more from Mitch about the Panther Heads.

Cheers,

Andrew

Andrew, thanks for the kind words....more stuff to post on there soon.

I think the Panthers are really good heads....almost went with one instead of the 2060. Going to Abel tomorrow....any quuestions you want me to ask Mitch or anyone else? Give me a call (203) 668-6896.

1030 hds works well with Red

1030 hds works well with Red

I've been using a 1030 HDS on 35L legs with Red and it works quite well. One thing to consider is where is the nearest service centre. Panther looks like a great head, but it can't be serviced locally for me so it's not an option.

Last time I talke to BJ at Custom Supply the O'Connor group buy prices were still in effect until the end of January. Give him a call and see what up for February.

Best,

Steve

We'll come up with some packages in the next few days and I'll post them. BTW, we can service Panther heads.

Just to confirm, I spoke with BJ myself today and the oconnor deal with them is still running. Very nice chap he was too. If abel cine can come up with something even better (even if its only $50-$100 or whatever) then many including myself may be swayed!

Woo us mitch with your generous discounts!

If anyone is interested I went to Abel today with our own Steve Sherrick to chat up Mitch about the Panther heads....and I was extremely impressed. The build is rock solid...in my opinion better than the Sachtlers I have used....it is all steel and aluminum with no plastic parts. The feel of the pan and tilts are very smooth and if I had not already bought an O'Connor 2060, I would have definitely gone for this head. I saw the T45 (the T28 and the T45 are the same size just different springs) and it was about the same size as a Sachtler HD30 head....maybe a touch smaller. All in all it is an excellent piece of equipment.
