I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on where to purchase an O'connor 1030 HDS package. I know B&H offers it, but there has to be a better retail option.

Thanks

Call Custom Supply Inc and ask for BJ Purcell. They were the company behind the first O'Connor Group Buy and are absolutely terrific. I cannot say if they still have the discount prices but I'm sure they can still give you a competitive quote. Number is 1-800-451-1425.

The best prices are with BJ at the media supply store. They did the group purchase on the OConnor equipment. The 2060 BTW is much better suited to the Red One. The 1030 has a hard time dealing with how spread out the weight is when everything is set up. My 2060 is like butter. I know it hurts to spend the money but it will not hurt ever in the shooting. The 1030 will be a pain forever with this camera system. IMHO

Yep, BJ at Custom Supply is great, he will help you out and I think they still have their special O'Connor prices going.

If you are interested in a group buy we could see about working something out.

Hey Mitch,
If we did get this deal put together, what do you think the timeframe would be to have all of the orders filled and shipped? I was hoping within 2 weeks. That may just be wishful thinking on my part.

I've heard the 1030 is much worse than the 1030hds. Anyone have experience with both? I know the 2060 is better, it should be better, it's several thousand more and it's a higher product in their lineup.

I wouldn't say that at all. I have a 1030B, and I like it better than the 1030HD because the drags are heavier, which I was told (by an O'Connor rep) was the only difference between the "B" and the newer "HD" models.

I love me a heavy head.

I am also seriously interested in a group buy on the 1030 HDS.

Interested to hear details here too. I've tracked down 2 older 1030 heads but really 1030hds is needed in my opinion. Group buy available internationally?

I'm still looking at tripod options for our Red and so far have narrowed our options to the following:

1. Sachtler Cine 30
2. O'Connor 2060
3. O'Connor 1030HD or more likely the HDS

I will need to operate our Red solo from time to time so weight is a consideration and therefore I'm a little nervous about the Cine 30 and the 2060. I shoot lots of golf courses, so is is practical to use the 2060/Cine 30 for this - looks like the weight for head + legs will be circa 30 pounds (ouch!!!).

The 1030 would be approximately half the weight!

Also anyone care to chime in on the pros of O'Connor over Sachtler? I've used many Sachtler tripods and like them a lot but I've yet to try the O'Connor as they're quite rare here in the UK.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated here.

Best wishes

Scott

The "S" models have 39Lbs capacity Vs. the 29Lbs of the 1030B/HD.
The "S" is the appropriate model for the Red and will support just about any lens shy of a 24-290 Optimo or Hawk.

Evin, have you liked using the 1030hds? Is there a head you'd recommend over the 1030hds that is within the same price range?

I'm not planning on never using a 2060, I will just reserve the 2060 for when we need a teleprompter.

Hey Scott,

Another option is the Miller Arrow 55 tripods. Miller is also very good, especially for the price. Gibby has one for his Red and spoke highly of it in a previous post. Benefits include no tilt limitation like the 1030HDS, not as expensive as the O'Connor, and greater load capacity.
