As a non-canon guy I this really doesn't bother me at all, and in a way I understand it. I would think that if they designed 2 totally different cameras, ( one that with hardware that maxes out at the specs of the 1d-x and then another that would be the 1d-c) it would make both cameras more expensive as a result of the additional R&D.

If that's true I think that all the still photographers out there using the 1dx for photography only would appreciate the break in price. Also, if they only had one camera and it did 4k I think that the price would stay the same as the 1d-c because it is the cheapest existing 4k solution that's ready to shoot right now and canon isn't known for introducing cameras with revolutionary price/specs ratios

They missed the point to trigger another revolution like they did with the 5D MKII.

Pat

PS: Perhaps because they still have a lot of 5D MKIII and 6D to sell before another revolution?

I won't name names but I talked to three Canon folk at NAB 2012 and asked the same thing and they gave me what I can describe as a "frowny face".

If Canon don't provide it, hackers will in very short order. This is the heart of the ethos of hacking (sensu stricto); getting hardware to do more than the manufacturers intended or anticipated.

Lots of companies do this type of thing. Your soaking in it.

Back in the 1970s, IBM sold mainframe printers. There was a low-performance model, and a high-performance model that printed twice as fast for double the price.

Or, you could slip your friendly Customer Engineer a few bucks to cut the single jumper that was the only difference between them...

And this has what to do with RED DISCUSSION?
