  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GemiZ

What PHFX Tools etc do you suggest for a new Gemini owner to get up to speed?

The Web Tools all have Format and general specs related to Gemini. It sounds like you're looking more for an overview of working within the RED ecosystem once again, in which case that's pretty much what the Field Ops Guide is. I've pretty much mentioned everything you need to know regarding Sensor Calibration and OLPF related stuff here.

More, please! :smile5:

Yo, Rand!

Nothing...chilling, chilling.
Just watched a game walkthrough on YouTube, (Alien Isolation) and it scared the bejesus out of me! At one past midnight...a freakin' nightmare! So, I was like eff that shite and came here to calm down...better to twist contrast curves than my mind.

You?

Sorry about the off, guys. :smile5:

Sabovic,

Nothing man, you know like a shark in water can detect a drop on blood from a mile away, I can detect a ungraded .r3d file or .jpeg on the forum.

Don't have the issue in PP since I can find the RED709 Color Space roll down and switch it to REDWideGamutRGB.

Is there a good Tut covering IPP2 / PP workflow somewhere?

Where the PP Input LUT's at? Is this a RED.com download or a purchase?

Zeb,

That's because the default "IPP2 Monitoring" in Redcine-X is "Color Space=Rec 709" and "Gamma Curve=BT1886(Gamma 2.4). Also, because the "IPP2 Output Transforms" are already built in as part of the development chain in Redcine-X, no need to add an Ouyput transform.

You can choose "None" in the "Output Tone Map" drop down menu to add your own "Gamma Curve" you might have made in another program, but that's about as flat as its going to get in Redcine-X, albeit you can choose "Very Flat" under the "Highlight Roll-Off" drop down for slightly more flat image. However, This won't get you the "RedwidegamutRGB/Log3g10" starting image I believe you are wanting.

You will have to either Export your clip out of Redcine-X as a "ProRes" file and chose 'Primary Raw Development" next to the "Export Pipeline" settings and develop the image further with IPP2 transform Luts in another NLE. Or, Import the .r3d file in another NLE and convert into the "RedwidegamutRGB/Log3g10" format and further develop the .r3d with IPP2 transform Luts.

Btw,

removed most of the "blue tinge" from the image.

Thanks Rand!
Yeah, mixed light on the above still life test shot with window light mixing with a 3200K LED. Waiting for darkness.
Haven't developed a feel for exposure on the Gemini yet as far as how much ETTR does it need. Coming from Dragon I was always wanting to feed it more light to avoid the noise. Like starting with a completely new system between the Gemini and IPP2 seems like. Wish I had my light meter with me to run an under/over test on Gemini to see where it's usable

Just me or is it that IPP2 / RED is best supported in Resolve out of the major NLE's

Zeb,

Here is a link that a Fellow Reduser by the name of Markel sent to me of a link Graeme sent to him of all of the IPP2 Output transform combinations. Zeb, yeah, I like to use the IPP2 transform best in Resolve, but I hear that Premiere Pro implements more of The RED SDK of IPP2 than Resolve does currently.

Just bracket your ass off and study the results. I'm guessing you'll find your personal limits for both noise character and highlight clipping pretty quick. Just keep a grey card or something in every shot so you have a mid-tone reference.

TIP: Train yourself to know what to look for in the various exposure tools - false color, GIOscope, histogram, etc - in terms of what you are going for. Personally, whenever I get the latest RED camera, I just go out and shoot anything and everything at a wide variety of settings to see where the image breaks. More importantly, I get to see how the sensor handles data near the extremes.

In any case, if there's anyone I know who is capable of making up their own mind, it's Zeb. :cheers2::cheers2:

Cheers - #19

Ha! More like, I don't to need to know anything about a subject to argue about it as an authority ;-)

Zeb,

You can also make your own IPP2 Transform Luts anytime from within Redcine-X.
