GearNex geared head UPDATE

GEARNEX UPDATE

GEARNEX UPDATE

speaking of updates, do you have one?

Thanks

Hi Paul & other interested parties,

Sorry for the delay in getting more updated information to you online. As some of you may already know, one of the reasons for the delay in getting the GearNex shipped was due to a small backlash issue in the tilt. Most users would not have even noticed it but Bret and I did not want to send out a product we felt wasn't good enough.

After $20,000 - $25,000 dollars and many weeks of research and development which included making new rollers, rocker arms, roller materials, transmissions, gear ratios, etc., we found the problem. The problem was the sets of worm gears and worms we where told to use did not properly match up. Not one person had noticed including our engineers, the gear representative, the distributor, the manufacturer and us. But after we replaced the worm, everything worked great.

Although we started production of most of the parts almost a month ago, we felt after testing we had to get this problem solved before continuing on mass production of the tilt assembly. When we found the gear pairing problem, we knew the problem was finally solved.

We are hoping to ship the improved GearNex unit in about 3 weeks and we appreciate everyone's patience. Please keep in mind, as we have been told by a lot of buyers, just get it right and that is what we are doing.

thanks for the Update Joseph, I too say take your time and do it right the first time

Hi Joe,

Another vote for getting it right.

I'm happy to wait.

As we are getting close it would be good to know what sticks you recommend, and if you are ready, what your plans are regarding your upcoming offering.

Cheers,

Steve

I just got back from our manufacture and we are feeling real good about all the upgraded changes we made to make the GearNex a great product.

We thank you for your patience and below are some pictures to show you where we are at in the process.

Here is an example of some of the R&D we did on the pan base. We centered the tilt transmission for better performance, functionality and user interface.

GearNex weight rating

GearNex weight rating

After completing the upgrades on the GearNex unit from the feedback received at NAB 2009, testing began.

Bret and I are happy to announce that the GearNex unit passed the previous weight limitations of 50lbs. We now feel comfortable to raise the maximum weight to 75lbs for a properly balanced load.

Awesome news! Thanks for the update, Joseph.

Can you estimate when shipping will begin?

Awesome news! Thanks for the update, Joseph.

Can you estimate when shipping will begin?

We are currently taking pictures for the instruction booklet to finish it and dealing with a small issue for the tilt brake handle that failed in testing but we hope to start shipping in 14 to 21 business days.

Thanks for the question.

Hi Joseph,
Will you have any models in the Bay Area to try out, or do I have to come out to Folsom? I already realized that you are not the Joseph Mendoza from Little Giant Grip/Lighting. I didn't know the name was so popular in the film community.

Hi Michael,

We have signed up with Asia Media Products to help us get distribution and resellers worldwide. As soon as we have a prepared GearNex resellers agreement in place, AMP can sign more locations up. San Francisco would be someplace we hope to have a reseller soon. In the next few weeks, you should be able to go Silverado in Folsom or FilmTools in Los Angeles and be able to get your hands on one.

Hope that helps.

Looking great Joe... Very exicting stuff.. Going up to 75lbs really takes the head to a new level!

Jay,

Thanks, we think so too. I won't say how much it really did for liability reasons but we where very proud of it.

Will I get the gear head direct from GearNex or from the reseller? How about the eye-piece leveller and case?

You will have a choice of using Element Technica's eyepiece leveler which will require our adapter. This adapter, should be less then $20. We will have our own eyepiece leveler but we have not introduced it yet due to not being able to test it.

The heavy duty hard case with wheels is being custom fitted for the GearNex right now.

You should get the GearNex unit from the reseller, unless you bought it directly from us. Then you will be getting direct from CineToys, LLC.
