Watched the 'Gamer' Blu Ray today and enjoyed it, fun film. Also cool that they name-drop Red about every 2 min on the BTS featurettes :-).

How successful was the flick? Only grossed $20mil domestic, hopefully they made up for it in the foreign theatrical and dvd.

The fat guy scenes were pretty unnecessary, my wife actually left the room one of the times, couldnt take them anymore.

Loved the immersion factor of the movie.

I loved it. To me, Gerard Butler + Michael C. Hall = Win

I loved Gamer. As long as you entered the theater knowing it was going to be completely over the top-ridiculous, then you're fine. I had a blast watching the movie and it looked amazing! My only disappointment was that Zoe Bell's cameo didn't last longer... :-(

Enjoyed it at the cinema even with the atrocious projection of what looked like a red laser anti piracy effect all over the screen - ouch.

Only slightly off topic, I watched 'Crank 2' high voltage the other night on an HD channel -

Man it looked really good for being shot on prosumer cameras - the lighting, grade, edit, cinematography was excellent. And of course the movie itself was ridiculous fun.

But it really was a triumph of great action editing (I watched it with the sound off, so as not to be confused by SFX, and it really was a great visual edit)-
And also a triumph of sharp, bugeyed, high shutter rate, deep DOF, handicam shooting!

^^^ crank 2 looked really good on the bigscreen too.

I really dug the overall look of it.

Oh and I forgot to say a big shout out to our very own Tom Lowe who had his stars timelapse shot in the flick! And he didnt even know it until I texted him and was like 'I think that's you, is it?' lol

Lol well I sold two clips via Getty stock footage back in January, I think, to "Lakeshore Entertainment." My monthly statement did not say which feature film, so I've been wondering where they might pop up! Anyway, I scanned through the 1080p Bluray already and a lot of the Red shots look super clean. Really nice!

Yeah it's crazy how good that and Eli looks and you realize they were what, like build 13 or something?

I haven't seen Eli yet. Gotta see that in digital projection! I assume it went through a 2K DI, right? Not 4K?

Anyway, good looking out on spotting that night star shot, Shawn. That was a pleasant surprise text message. :)

finally gottena round to renting this, liked the concept fo the movie. the featurette about red was definitly worth the watch haha, noticed the red #35. really cool

Nevedine/Taylor are the two of my favorite writers, their films may be mindless, but I've never laughed as hard as I did at the end of Crank: High Voltage.

the last 4 times i've been to the movies there has always been a problem with the projection. worst was when i watched district 9, and the whole film was completely out of focus. i was pretty peeved about that one.

I had to go see D9 twice as the first time it was utterly out of focus. I'm wondering if lack of focus is a new "anti-piracy" system too?

Graeme

Do you not bring this to the attention of management when it happens? I complain to the manager if a film starts out of focus and usually they correct it within a couple of minutes.
Projectionists should use low power binoculars to focus with too. It can be hard to judge by eye from the booth.

Oh yes I do..... Funny story..... I say to the manager - do you see this t-shirt I'm wearing and do you recognize the logo from the end credits of the movie... You can see where this goes and I get a bunch of free tickets to go back to see it in focus.

Graeme

That's awesome!
I think I might wear my RED shirt next time I go to the theater...
