  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FYI Seagate 1T drives failing

I just RMA'd two 2GB external Maxtor/seagate drives. They're total crap. Luckily I had already triple copied my footage. Still a big pain in the a$$...i'll never buy Maxtor/seagate drives again!

Wooo! Thanks very much for the link! I've have 18 1TB drives, and I guess 6 or 7 of them have died, and been sent back. Luckily I got Raid-6 so I always have an extra spare drive, to change to when the Raid has started to be degenerated. I'll better update those firmwares straight away, to get rid of this annoying problem.

I have 2 of thise. Working -so far-. The problem seems to be in the firmware and at boot up, but I have had bad feelings regarding thise drives from day one. They have always been making allot of "clonking" and "clicking" sound. Much more than any other drive I have. So I have not gotten more of them.

Just crappy drives. Will never get a Segate again.

Damn, I just bought 9 of these drives...
Thanks for posting the link.

Just lost a 500Gb Seagate, my 8 year old Western Digitals are running strong.

Stick to Enterprise drives as mentioned before, or "Raid Class" drives. I am itching for some more 1Tb Western Digital "Black" Drives, or the new RE3s.

Good info, thanks.

anyone have an alternative suggestion for internal drives?

I have one of the barracuda drives with no problems yet, but will need more drives in the near future and will gladly buy something different if others have found a reliable solution.

I have an Imac with that drive in it which I also upgraded the ram (maxed out). Now the computer shuts off for no reason without warning. Is this the drive or the ram?

I use 1TB Western Digital, the proper bare drives, not the World Book nonsense.

I get about 3TB per week and haven't had a single glitch.

there have been many imac users reporting power supply failures. I have a 2007 edition imac that needed a power supply swap in 2008.

Irritating, but I have to say that it was very easy to fix. I just downloaded a bootable cd, disconnected all my others drives and then it just flashed all 1TB with new firmware. Worked very good.

It is still better then WD that totally ignore firmware bugs and do nothing.
