Hi all,

I was directing a 6 camera Red shoot the other night.

We had HD-SDI coming out of all cameras for monitoring backstage.

About a 1/2 into the rehearsal we saw FAN ERROR come up on the monitor that was displaying my personal Red.

Oh no, never seen this before, is it new under build 30? Did my fan get dislodged in the flight across?

In the end, no. We discovered after switching inputs and having the error remain, the FAN ERROR was in the monitor, not the camera!

My Red is still indestructible!

LOL. And how long did it take you to work this out Jim? That's the kind of that thing sees me spending half an hour pulling everything apart to try and fix - except for the actual thing that's broken.

Haha. The other day my wife's mac wouldn't print anymore. So I rebooted, no luck, did a system clean, no luck, reinstalled the driver, no luck even after a new reboot. Turns out, the network cable had slipped out of the printer's socket...

I came upstairs to do some work over the weekend and my laptop immediately turned off... ??? I turn it back on and everything seems fine. I do a bit of work --it turns off again!!! I start to worry. Did I just lose that last bit of progress between timed-saves? Did I get some sort of monster virus that won't let me use my dearest laptop ever again? How much do laptops cost?

Then I noticed we had turned off the AC the night before. Without a shirt on, still lacking coffee, and being from Florida, I hadn't realized it was like 100 degrees in the office. That of course didn't sit too well with the laptop which had been on all night. Pheeeew... xP

I remember going to the tech support call to fix someone's printer. Of course it wasn't working - it wasn't plugged in. The power bar was under the desk where the secretary sat, and had had the plug kicked out of it.

Actually from a human factors perspective, to the Red Team, it may be good to have Red's error dialogs be in a font or design that is unmistakeably Red originated. Or perhaps have the logo next to the dialog text etc. Some way that is distinct enough that no one will get confused in a high pressure environment as to which machine is generating the error (or by process eliminating which it ISN'T as well).

Speaking as an ex-pilot where warning indicators need to have zero confusion, lest people die through misunderstanding them....

HTH
