  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Looks like a lot of footage used in the FCP demo could be RED, judging by file naming conventions. But probably Alexa since they're pretty similar to RED naming. See the below Apple-provided screens. This means they could well be aware of EPIC, etc. Also, word is that the build we saw last night was compiled in February- right around the EPIC launch. So they will have had 4 months post EPIC release to add in 5k and native RED support. Let the drooling begin...

I think the cameras used for the demo footage is clear. Seems like no r3d footage on this demo. Maybe next one.

Soo much awesomeness.
The brillance of the App store and its pricing becomes more evident everyday. They are going to sell a ton of new seats, and computers to run them.

Rehashing my post from another topic:

I got to witness X at SuperMeet.
The real winners is us ;)
We have so many great choices and it only gets better!

Look on the timeline some of the clips start with the traditional red file naming convention of A00

Ohh so no R3D support? thats bad...

This is a short overview of an early build of a beta product. You can't jump to conclusions like that - apart from the few features they've already shown, we won't know what's going to be included or not included in the actual release until Apple actually puts up a product page at least.

I think it's quite unlikely that it won't have R3D support, but we'll see.

In your first screen grab, in the bin under "Cameras", it very clearly says "Alexa" "Canon 5D" and "GoPro". I don't see anything about RED.
That doesn't mean anything. Companies do make partnerships, but yes it's probably Alexa though the naming convention is very much like RED.

Most films editing RED use ProRes proxies. So file format means nothing except that it doesn't use R3Ds... doesn't mean it's not RED. Again, it's probably Alexa, but whatever. It's not important. We need to wait until Apple releases more info.

Agreed.

Also agreed.

They haven't released any details and its a sneak peak so I guess the suite is set to ship in June with the FCP X, I'm curious as to when we will see the rest...
It is a feb version and tons of improvements would have been made since, considering they have worked with R3D in the past and in the presentation say you can work with DSLR etc. footage all natively then I'd be surprised to see them not putting support for the 4K leader, especially since they are WELL aware of RED and obviously know about the EPIC, I suppose 4K was the ceiling limit during the presentation? Everything's able to change...
I can't wait to see the actual final stuff...after seeing the video, it definitely runs like the old FCP with the improvements, the interface is just glossed up, I'm noticing bits of what reminds me of logic pro/ garageband (that middle timer bit especially) so the new scheme is I guess just to allow for a comfortable jump between the programs, make it less daunting to new comers from iMovie...since it sounds like they axed FCS Express and just priced this lower to accommodate the entire section...
I can see the new interface being great on a Macbook Pro...it seems to work really well on one screen at least from the look of the presentation

Wow.. after watching that demo, I have only one thing to say: SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! =)

I've been an editor for over 10 years and have used a dozen packages over the years and this is an unbelievable piece of soft!

The new timeline with Magnetic/Compound tools is worth 299 USD ;)

I'd even pay the $2.5k "Avid tax" to get something like this! At $299, this is an instant buy... seriously, no thinking required.

Up until today, I had never seen Magnetic Timeline and now after the demo, it looks COMPLETELY OBVIOUS and "feels" like the right way to do things. I shouldn't have watched it because I'll now have hard time working in FCP7 until this thing is released :).

I got back from Vegas 8:45 Central. Got to my house to pick up truck and pass card by 9pm (yes record time specially with Canada Customs).
Got to work by 9:30pm.
Had to fix a project due yesterday (arent they always?) in Avid....

Do I need to explain how I feel after all that?

One of the things that impressed me the most about the FCPx announcement was the full implementation of OpenCL and Grand Central Distpatch (GDC). I don't see anybody jumping for joy about this, but I sure jumped out of my chair when I heard the announcement.

Unlike CUDA which provides multi-GPU acceleration, the combination of OpenCL and GCD use ALL resources available to process the render or function. This is CPUs + GPUs!!! So in theory you can load up your 4/8/12 core Power Mac and add a few more GPU cards for a Real Time Processing Beast. In theory of course. We'll have to wait and see.

Sorry to hijack this thread but Id like to give a shout out to the group from Light Iron. Their demo of Live Play at the SuperMeet was awesome!

Nice to hear some positive comments. I was beginning to get worried by the amount of negative feedback all over the interweb. (People complaining about things on the internet... who would have thought)

Anyway, nice to know I might not have to switch to another Adobe product. Never really been able to get over the numerous frustrating experiences I've had with Photoshop, although After Effects made me forgive them a little bit.

When I saw the screenshots, and heard about the features I thought: the 64-bit thing is great, but it really seems like iMovie Pro...

Now that I saw the video (thanks!) I have to say I'm pretty much sold. Words don't do justice seeing the features in action. I still have a lot of questions (where can we see the Timecode of the Viewer? And the Canvas? seperately?, What with the other apps? ...) and I'm not to keen of all the auto-tagging, but the magnetic timeline seems like a huge game-changer.
When I heard about the one-click match color feature I thought: isn't this already in some kind of way in FCP? But when you see it, how it completely makes almost a full stylized grade based on one click was very impressive - in the demo, we'll see how it works in the real world.

Very curious to see more, can't wait until it's out!

I'm impressed from the video.
But in the meanwhile i will play with imovie to get used with filmstrip and new new UI ;)
I hope there will be a way to add edit ( ctrl+ v) because i have learned video editing with Avid.
And of course i hope for full R3d support.

I think ( and hope ) that the other pro apps like Motion, Color, Compressor and Soundtrack will be available soon in the Mac App Store.

Its an open forum. We all do it :)

I tried to talk to the demo jockeys at Adobe about a few MAJOR issues I had with their CS5 (Premiere and After Effects). They introduced me to their tech team. Amazing that none of them knew about the 2GB file limit problem meanwhile I mention it once in a food line-up and I get a feedback from complete strangers.
The Adobe folks probably were told before NAB not to talk about it.
I go to these conferences so I can get answers straight from the vendors.
Adobe failed big time :P
