Crunchy dials on View Finder - how to clean?

I have been filming in very dusty conditions, and my View Finder dial and assist buttons are imbedded with fine grainy dirt.

Is it OK for me to unscrew the plate around the assist buttons, remove and clean under with a dust gun or brush?

Don't want to cause damage.

Its a simple procedure as is fixing the looseness/ratteling of the knob with a piece of tape.
