Saw this on the Abelcine blog here: http://blog.abelcine.com/2013/04/11/nab-2013-fujifilm-is-mini-color-management-tool/

website: http://www.fujifilm.com/products/motion_picture/image_processing/is_mini/

It's a small HDSDI / HDMI box that you can load a 3D LUT into to either calibrate a monitor or set it to a look. From the website:

"Monitor calibration is possible if the figure measured with the spectrophotometer for the monitor is entered into the computer and IS-mini recorded with the color conversion table created on the computer is connected with the monitor and image output equipment. Anyone can easily conduct calibration by following the instructions of the accompanying software IS-mini MANAGER, even if they have no special knowledge of color management. This enables color matching for not only shooting sets but also monitors in a broad range of business operations that handle images including production companies, post-production and advertisement production companies."

This might be a good alternative to the BlackMagic HDlink which doesn't seem to work that well as a color conversion box.

Price around 1300 USD.

That is F!@#$% awesome. I know this is not new, but is something many were waiting for in a little box like this.. You don't have to see the flat raw look on your monitor anymore while you are shooting, just load a preview LUT just like this guy here and you are ready to go.. Your raw file is still raw..

I see that they are promoting it as a CM tool, too. Does anybody know if the mentioned "calibration software" it brings can reproduce more that just Rec.709 color space LUTs? Any list of spectrophotometers it supports?

The box was intended mainly as a multiple monitor calibration device on set, only is based on LUTs. You can have a Kodak or a Arri Log C, or your favorite color space that was previously converted to a Lut, that is then loaded for a specific monitor anytime you want to. But some people in this forum have been requesting Red to implement some kind of LUTs previews on Red cameras while on set, for lighting-make up etc. purposes and that is precisely what this little box does..

As far as I understand, you calibrate the monitor with your regular laptop and your favorite spectrophotometer, then make a LUT out of that, and load it into the box via USB for further use.

This is welcome news. I have four HDLink Pros and while they work quite well, they have some inaccuracies. The difference is apparent when I A/B the HDLink with a Truelight loaded with the same CDL. I plan to buy a couple.

Now that I've upgraded to Livegrade Pro and using CDL Server I plan to buy a couple as well.

Does anyone know what size iSlut (yes, that's the name !) .cube files the IS-mini generates / accepts ?

Cheers,

Brian

Hi Brian, Fuji IS-Mini has 10-bit internal processing, it has one 1D+3D LUT Table Memory Slot that each one has 10-bit LUT Color Depth and it's 3D LUT table size is 26-Point Cube (17.576 Color Points).

Another trick,
Get the low cost deck link mini or even the usb3 decklink and then download scope box (there is a 15 day trail) or the license cost like 100 bucks or so. Then you feed the camera to your computer trough the decklink and you get all kind of scopes you could dream of on your laptop/computer screen + you can feed the scope box's preview window with a 3d lut. the scope box can also record proxies if wanted with timecode.

I got that setup on a mac next to my flame now to have all scopes and such and to me it would be a bomb thing to have on set as well. I never seen anyone using it but to me it's so much more convenient in a lot of scenarios than carrying reference screens and such that does not tell you more than "we got picture" and can't record etc etc. Put a laptop by the directors table and feed the preview with a lut and tell him to record if he sees something interesting... simple as that, and the dp got all the scopes etc.

The deck link mini recorder card cost about 100 dollars.

Bjorn, I use Scopebox. It's a great little piece of software.

Björn do you know any software like scope box for pc to apply LUT to the the live stream?

best regards

Not to go OT, but we're considering the Ultrastudio 4K with Thunderbolt 2 to drive our FSI 10 bit monitor at 4-4-4 and wondered if anyone could weigh in on the pros and cons of this vs mini-display port out of our Trashcan Mac Pro?

Thank you!
