The 70-200 and 24-70 are both brand new, never used. The 50mm 1.4 is in mint condition and has only been used on one shoot. I'd like to get close to what I paid for the new ones. I'd prefer to deal locally if there is anyone in Colorado interested in these lenses. If there isn't I'll ship on the condition that the buyer pays shipping and or paypal fees. I might be interested in trading for PL lenses if you have any you'd like to trade. I'll add pictures shortly. Feel free to PM or email offers... JeffreyLoewe(at)yahoo.com

Guys before you go out and sell your present cars for Formula Ones..take a breath.
Not everything has to be shot with a Master Prime and Pl mounts. You have to ask yourself what is your end result.

If you're Januscz Kaminski..and it's a 40ft. screen and a worldwide theatrical release..yes.
But for anything going to internet..video..magazine/press publication..or prints up to say 11X14
those Canon lenses will perform just fine.

The reason I cancelled my Ti Canon Mount order is because I no longer want to shoot with Canon lenses. I have a 24-70mm f/2.8L and have used a few others, and to me, they all seem soft. I've always thought it was my imagination, but after coming to the forum and reading about other people's experiences with Canon glass and seeing tests and comparisons, I've decided to avoid shooting with Canon lenses. I'll still be getting a Canon Mount from RED as there are a few application-specific lenses from Canon that I like to use, such as their macro, tilt-shift and super telephoto lenses, but for the most part, I've decided to use some alternate glass, like Zeiss' primes and RPPs.

I think Canon lenses matched with an Al Canon Mount on Scarlet or a Ti Canon Mount on EPIC can be a great choice for specific applications or lower-budget productions. If you want the best possible quality out of your footage, I think it's important to use crystal-clear lenses. (Canon glass, to me, doesn't seem crystal-clear...) I'm fortunate enough to be able to use RPPs and/or rent lenses as I need them, which is why I'm doing what I'm doing. I'm not saying that everyone should move away from Canon lenses. It's just that, in my personal situation, it's what I've decided (and am able) to do.

I will say this, however... My experience with Canon glass in still photography has been just 'okay'. No matter which of their lenses I use, the images they produce are never sharp. However, I've been able to get by as I don't do photography as a living. I'm a high school student. :-) And besides, even with not-so-sharp Canon glass, you can still capture some great images. Like this...

Wow, I'm really surprised... You're actually selling all your Canon lenses?

I'm sure it's because of Mr. Jannard's tests with Peter Lik, right? After reading his results and listening to what he had to say about Canon glass, I contacted RED to cancel my Ti Canon Mount order and replace it with a Ti PL Mount. =D

No not necessarily. Did you get bumped to the end of the line by doing that? I have two orders in. I ordered a PL and a AL Canon to see which would show up first and i'll take that order. Ultimately I've decided to go PL at this point I think. We'll see. No good offers yet.

Err... yeah. Let's go with that... :-)

I'll happily buy your Al Canon Mount when it arrives if you're still interested ! =)

So tell me, if it's not because of the lens comparison tests by Mr. Jannard and Peter Lik, why are you deciding to sell all your Canon lenses? I'm just curious. :)

i dont understand why do you want sharp glass take a look at Cooke's they are not even sharp half of other lenses but ppl love them
and i believe canon lenses sharper than most of the the cine lenses

The Canon 70-200 is pretty damn sharp! Not sure you can really complain about that lens...some people have complained the II is TOO sharp for motion work.

Still pro photogs use these lenses day in & day out and make amazing images that have to hold up to the scrutinization of people looking at one single frame printed at hi res for a lot longer than the 1 to 2 seconds your clip is on screen during a final edit.

I feel you lose the most when useing still lenses for motion is when you are racking focus and the lens breathes or an element in the lens move...or IF you choose to zoom they do not hold focus...the sharpness is the least of the concern to me...

that being said, I am half way through snatching up leica glass to get a cinemod for my canon mount scarlet! :)

I trust Mr. Jannard and everyone else I've spoken to who have said that (most) Canon lenses are soft. Especially since, in my own tests, I have found them to be lacking in sharpness.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean when you ask why do I want sharp glass...?

I agree. It's quite sharp. And as Mr. Jannard said from his "Testing with Peter Lik..." thread...

The big surprise was how poorly most of the Canon lenses did except for the long lenses.

So, I suppose Canon's telephoto lenses are much sharper than their wide-angle and standard zoom lenses.

+1 Agreed.

lol :)

By the way, I apologize about sort of derailing your thread Jeffrey. I was curious as to why you're selling your Canon lenses, but ended up creating a discussion about Canon vs. Cinema Lenses. Sorry about that. :)

Isn't the "too sharp" argument levied against RPPs as well (not to mention weighing in at 3 lbs a lens).

Right. The most funny is to even think part of the history of motion picture has consisted to mimic the fantasy side on the POV over the reality instead. There are even filters to be used to potencialize the dreamy effect demanded in the creation of a certain realm. Project design not necessarily at any rate but in any case.

Any obsession towards real sharpness is just silly for certain kind of work. Especially that one used to exactly be projected at the big screen, right there.

4K doesn't justify sharpness allover, but straight to a better care to enrich with a balanced combination of multiple different factors... sometimes being of opposite nature (even if apparently in contradiction), one of them. The proof is in the pudding ;-)

I'd rather trust the thread is not available anymore for some good reason ;-) I doubt Canon may happen as the only grounds or justification enough for :D

Wait... Where did the thread go...? It was the "Testing with Peter Lik..." thread. Why did it get deleted? I found it to be immensely informational and useful. Here's Google cached page: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:gGO1DZbSaDQJ:www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php%3F68947-Testing-with-Peter-Lik+site:reduser.net+testing+with+peter+lik+page+1&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=safari

No, honestly... Is there something I'm missing...? I'm deeply confused right now...

EDIT:
@ Emanuel
I just noticed in your signature that you have RED's 300mm T/2.9 lens. This is a lens I'm very interested in, especially because of its price. How do you like it?

EDIT 2:
@ Emanuel
For some reason, I felt like clicking the "Who am I?" link in your signature. I did. And now I'm very confused... You joined the REDUSER.net forum one day after Mr. Jannard and it says "cross-examiner" under your name on your profile. I now this has absolutely nothing to do with the original question in this thread, and this is a completely random question, but are you a RED employee?

Brian,

No, I am not a RED employee (cross-examiner by courtesy of Jarred :) even though it is not the first time this doubt pops up since I've been an early adopter and indefective supporter from minute one, everywhere not only @reduser. RED employees have their name in red instead.

On your another question, even if I am close to others who have happily been, I haven't been a RED 300mm shooter as of today for different reasons. One of them you can easily follow up in my signature as you did. I am also more focused in other departments of this business. I need to, if I want to keep my RED vibe up :D This gear costs money. Someone must find where to get the funds for ;-)

The only person who could delete a original thread of the owner of company is himself. He did it 'cause he finally realized he should. I think this means something.

Greetings from south of Europe,

Emanuel :-)

The thread was probably deleted because folks were doing silly things like selling off gear and canceling orders based upon someone else's assessment of a visual aesthetic without making informed descisions based upon their own likes and needs.

The deletion may have save the lives of many lemmings.
