If everything goes according to plan, the scarlet's/epic's are targeted to be realesed in late October/November of this year with the Epic X and the 3K scarlets coming out first.

Straight from the mouth of Ted:

click on #043, it's just slightly passed the half way point.

Again this is still just a target date, but at least it's something. If this has already been posted then sorry for re-posting.

Well, he said something about "We will get our first look at Scarlet and Epic in [Oct/Nov]" or before Christmas. Not sure what that means exactly?

I wonder if "our first look" might mean that's when the ASIC boards arrive in-house and Red internal team attempts the first build of a working unit? Which is of course quite different from "first product ship day" I'm thinking. I have no real info; other companies would never mention this type of internal milestone publicly, but of course Red is not other companies.

Good to hear an update. I am a little bummed though to hear that Scarlet S35 is no longer first in line though...and a little surprised, as I seem to remember hearing that Epic X and Scarlet 35 shared the same sensor. Anyway, at this point, I'm just hoping to at least have a Scarlet 35 in my hands by NAB '10.
Peace,

-Harry

WOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Nice posted on the 27th and the answer was Before winter!!!!! ("If everything goes exactly to the engineering plan")

Thanks for sharing Brennan.

From Ted Schilowitz's mouth:

"When Scarlet and Epic are coming?

Here is the real answer:

If everything goes exactly to the engineering plan...

We will see the first looks at Scarlet and Epic...one flavor of each...

...by probably the late Fall...!

...Epic-X and Scarlet 3K...!

...November time frame...!

...Before Winter (2009/2010)...!"

For those who haven't listened to the podcast, it's worth mentioning that Ted but a fair amount of emphasis on the "if" in "if everything goes exactly to the engineering plan...".

But this is awesome news - I'm really excited that we should see exciting developments before the year is over.

My only regret about this announcement is that the 3K Scarlets will arrive before the S35. I was using the earlier arrival of the S35 as an excuse to step up, buy a lens adapter for current EOS 5D(1) lenses, and aspire to something far more than my home movies. Now, when the 3K Scarlets arrive, I'll be in line and be happy to keep the difference in price and be very satisfied with the 1080p video I was going to burn to BluRay anyway.

As I said log ago that a real target (shipping) is sometimes in 2010.

Would be nice to get first Mysterium-X upgrade for R1 that we can see what's going on there.

Real life test of the new sensor would be the best for both, RED and its more then 6000 customers worldwide.

This just made my week. Wonder if we will get all the price estimates with the first looks.:emote_popcorn:

That would be cool. I'd guess (and this is a complete guess) that the prices for the brains won't be too far off the prices listed on the RED.com website given that those prices are still on the "spec" sheet whilst the ship dates have been removed. Unless of course those prices are there just to confuse the competition. Who knows.

Guys please do not misunderstand "shipping" for "first looks".

Unlike RED, they will not release this until all the bugs are killed. Expect this to take some time.

Jay

Ditto, since when does a 'first look' mean shipping units? More likely it means 'here's semi-final pricing, here's working units, now Peter Jackson and Steven Soderbergh get some demos to shoot with'

EDIT: This also lines up with Jim's recent post about hopefully having a new schedule in a few months

IMO, I'm very happy that 3K scarlet will be first. That camera can overcrank to 120fps -- the one element that is totally lacking from all other 1080p prosumer cameras. Plus, in theory, you will have a little room for reframing and stabing the images to 1080p.
