Somebody at RED please, Help. I when I go to download and log in it says "locked"...
guessing I'm not registered as dragon user as I can still login to epic firmware download.
Tried downloading the latest build - but I am still locked out of the Dragon firmware.
Don't know the secret handshake - Dragon got delivered 2 weeks ago.
Jochen
How is this possible?
Red are aware that people rent their cameras, why lock out firmware to anyone?
Would love to know the logic behind this as I am looking at renting a CF Dragon for a shoot in the coming weeks and was not aware I would have to make my crew aware of what I perceive as paranoid idiocy.

Sorry guys, doesn't wash.
I am not talking about updating to a new firmware. I was under the impression that you should always travel with a spare copy of the firmware.
This spare copy should not be in a locked out location on the internet because as we all know files on harddrives/SSD's can be corrupted and/or lost.
Still not seeing a logic to this, would love an explanation that goes beyond what has been written already.
If the cam's with firmware are in the field then anyone who might shoot on them (read anyone, anywhere) should have access to the firmware. Is that not the reason the firmware is available for download anyway?
This deters (to some degree) those that have stolen gear. It really should be the rental houses responsibility to provide current or older firmware.
So by that logic people with a stolen camera can a) rent to get firmware (easy option) b) hack to get firmware (harder i expect but I am not a thief)
Sorry, still seems like this exists as policy because of delusion. Please, someone, make me look stupid. I want to be wrong about this. I want a good reason for that poor guy pulling their hair out sweating about lost money/work/career because they can't make their camera work.
I get what you are saying Bob but things go wrong, hence the ability to download software. And yes, why not in the field if needed?
Prep is important, I get that, this restriction ignores the reasons for prep, ie. be prepared. Red are not prepared for this eventuality.
Somewhere sometime someone will need to download firmware and for some reason no-one can explain to me they will be unable to do it.... oh wait it happened a few hours ago a few posts up on this thread.
Everyone that has a Dragon should make sure to move to the latest release build.
It is important.. Calibration, New and Old OLPF flags, A.D.D, all work alot better on the newest build.
The new Dragon SDK that went out to the developers has a few things in there as well that benefit the newest build.
And don't forget to do a new black shade.. It's insane the difference of quality between the new calibrations and the ones from just a few builds ago.
