  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Frank Darabont's MOB CITY premieres tonight on TNT. Shot on RED

What a great quote from Frank:

I love shooting with film,” says Darabont. “We shot the pilot on super 16 as I did on Walking Dead. And then, in the time that had passed since we shot the pilot and we were gearing up to do this, I tested the digital world again, and--this is going to turn into a plug for the Red camera--I realized that all my arguments against it were going away. I'm one of the last holdouts, but I've made the switch over [to digital] and it's been a fantastic thing.”

Wow. That's really interesting. Should be fun to compare the look of the pilot to the look of the rest of the series a la "The Newsroom"

Having had the chance to directly compare 16mm negative with HD before, there's no question to me that HD is almost always sharper and steadier. I don't doubt that a Red Epic would give them all the exposure range they needed. Darabont does terrific work and I hope the show does well.

I love me some noir! This looks great!

WOW. Did not know they shot this on RED! TNT has been buying so much ad time on Walking Dead, hopefully their strategy works! Gunna tune in.

Wish I could have seen it...on Bravo here in Canada, to which I don't subscribe. Amazing what the cable bill is every month up here just to have HD channels and the specialties like TMN/Movie Central and Super Channel which are the usual networks that take the CDN broadcast rights for US cable shows.

Started off looking and feeling a bit ropey but really picked up both in terms of drama and the visuals throughout the first episode. Some of the lighting in the second half of the episode was lovely. There was some great stuff going on with grain and filtration. Would love to know a little more about how that material was shot and treated.

Arri 416 instead of Red?

Arri 416 instead of Red?

I wonder why Frank chooses to shoot on Super 16mm for Walking Dead?

Late to the party, but what the hell? I was convinced this was shot on 35 mm, goddam, the show looks gorgeous. I love the first season but I'm mad that the ratings weren't good enough for a second season. Grrrrr, why can't we get good things?
