Anyone out there know how to convert files back to 23.97..
my cameraman shot a job at.... Project time base at 29.97 and the frame rate at 23.976 and the clip is speed up..
anyone know how to convert back to normal speed so we can sink audio...

please let let me know if anyone can help..

cheers

Be careful not to 'convert' your footage which may delete or add frames. What you need to do is 'interpret' your footage as 23.976. The timebase of the footage is just a way of telling your NLE or player how fast it should be played back but in most NLE's you can also choose yourself how fast it should play. This is possible in Premiere FCPX and Resolve but in each program they have put the option in a different place. If you can't find it then tell us what you use to edit with. If you did everything right you should have no problem with smooth playback and audio sync.

Is it no quick fix for this in RCXP?
As I remember there is, but I forgot how it´s done. Dropping the clips into a timeline of the NLE that has the correct framerate and then click the right option in the popup question that follows is one way to deal with it. But that is just sorting it in that edit. If you for example later export edls or even XMLs to go to another system then the procedure might bite you in the ass as the original r3d´s are then holding a different setting for playback speed than what was used in the edit so much better to solve the issue at the root with is inside the r3d container/meta data. But yes, I for got how it´s done. So please any one that knows better please share.

I know in Resolve, you simply select the clip and right click "Change Attributes" and reset that to 23.976. In other programs... I dunno.

This all depends on the time base set in your timeline.

If if your timeline is set to 29,97 the the footage will appear sped up because it's attempting to play back 24 frames per second in a 30 frame per second timeline. If you set your timeline to 23.98, there will be a time base mismatch but the 23.98 frames per second that you shot will take 1 second to playback.

It it also depends on what NLE you are using.

Either way, it's a huge pain in the ass and never super easy to fix properly. If you use Adobe products, use the "interpret footage command to interpret the footage as 24fps.

But does that change it in the r3d folder or just inside of resolve?

The nice thing would be to fix it at the root level of the problem, i.e in the r3d folder metadata.
